Ok I love the look of the boys from Armageddon but I'm just sick & tired of gw. As such I'm looking for ideas what I can use my steel legion for. I have about 50 of them & tons of armour most of which is very modified to look less 40k & more WWII/modern/sci-fi all in one. I just don't care for that big ponderous & clanky look gw prefers for IG.

Amyhow, thoughts would be genuinely appreciated here.

There's the ususal generic games.

Mantic's Warpath has been steadily improving over the years, although they've been focusing on getting a bit more distance from GW games, that game is still as 40k clone as it gets.

Same goes for Deadzone, you can very easily find units to proxy SL as in those games.

There's a bunch of generics that are descendants of older games from the 90s and 00s. Shock Force was a good one, but I forget what that turned into, but it made for a nice generic game.

Tomorrow's War is a name that keeps being talked about, based on the Force on Force rules, so definitely skirmish.

Good Suggestions.

WarEngine (free on the yahoo group) is a good platoon size game with a vibe that fits 40k well. It's the core rules that were "Shock Force". the Shock Force statlines are on the yahoo group as well.

Tomorrow's War is another good one for platoon skirmish. Very hard-sci-fi though, with a reaction system that's about as far from 40kas you can get.

If you really like Reaction system games, then 5150 Star Army is the full measure of such games. You can try the mechanics out for free with the Chain Reaciton rules at the Two Hour Wargames website. If you like Chain Reaction (same basic rules without the sci-fi chrome) you'll love 5150. If not, then don't bother.

If you want to play with all your toys on the table at once, I recommend Warpath 1.0 You can still find the rules online if you look around. It's basically Kings of War "in Space" but it's a very fast moving game that acommodate a ton of minis at once. I think it's still posted at Warseer somewhere.
