A friend of mine is organising a Tournament with everything included...everything. Including 30K.

I suggested this is a bad idea and that 30K and 40K just dont mix, are my worried justified or unfounded?

It would suck to pay to enter a tournament just to get rolfstommped by a 30k army

Do you even know the units of 30k?

For the most part, they are space marine armies with a few differences in wargear, and not even close to broken. They have LoW, but so does everyone now.

Ehhhh.... Like most forge world stuff 30k seems pretty over-the-top when you first look at it but its actually not that bad. In fact I'd say the 30k armies are gonna be at a disadvantage depending on the points limit.

What point limit is he setting? At 2000 you could do a 30k army fairly well, but you still are gonna have a tough time getting more then a couple of your big-nasties in the list.

Compared to the crazy gak you can do with normal 40k stuff, 30k should be the least of your worries.

Cool. I'm less worried now. I temd to only run battle forged lists with maybe some formations and allies so it should be interesting

In a 2000 point game you could squeeze in a Primarch, but I don't think any of them could match some of the 40K death stars that are out there.

Bring a Spartan Assault Tank with Flare Shields, Laser Destroyers and Armoured Ceramite. Put a Primarch in it.

Laugh at anything which isn't Strength D.

When 30k came out it was pretty powerful stuff. Now that we have had a year to update a lot of codexes, most of it balances out to about the same power level. 30k marines are much like GK in that they have a boat load of wargear but they pay higher points costs for most units. I would say they are balanced if a bit underpowered. I do love that fellblade though.

And then you find a demon factory list who laughs as he spawns more units than you can kill each turn. He then wins because he has all the objectives on the map.

Damn you bursting my bubble, you are entirely correct of course. But it would give most people a good shock.

30k has some nasty things in it.

But than again so does 40k.

You can be TFG in both cases, and can make a decent and fun list on both cases.

Just beware of castallax spam. that thing is as nasty as 6th edition riptade spam was.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

With T-C'tan rocking all over the place, I wouldn't worry about 30k.

Hell, some Primarchs would struggle even against just a Knight.

I think 2k is the magic number for 40k vs 30k

Given that knights are designated "supermodel killer" that won't be shocking, its what they are MADE for.
They rather struggle when it comes to weaker units, by sheer lack of attacks, even with stomp it takes them forever to clear out tarpits that don't run away.

As for Tctan, yes, these are probably the most OP unit in the game right now, but personally I find that as long they don't have WoW (or double if really want to dickmove), its just an unkillable model that struggles to kill enough to justify his cost, espeically against MSU type armies.

They do have options that will rock knights though.
