Subject: Wraiths, how to beat them?

So in my game group it's a prayer that ONLY plays Wraiths... No matter the points there is a wraith knight and at least 2 wave serpents filed with wraith guard. Add to that the attaurch on a jetbike that is neigh unlikable..
Now I've faced this over and over and over with tau, CSM and now Necrons. I just can't beat it. What can normally bring this over powered, auto play list down??

This list is by no means over powered or auto win.
Wraithguard you just shoot down from afar, and generally you ignore Wraithknights and focus on his troops and tanks.
My wife uses a somewhat similar list and weight of fire deals with the Serpents and squishy insides.

Playing as Necrons, your best bet are your own wraiths. Rending attacks, fearless, and 3++ makes them great at tying up a wraithknight. MSS on a Dlord helps too. Tesla helps against the Wraithguard/Blades
Things are much more difficult as a CSM player. Helldrakes will do well at removing Wraithguard, and Vector strike, though nerfed is still a good bet against Wave Serpents. Obliterators with assault cannons can cause some damage against Knights, and plasma guns will do the trick every other turn. Really, you're looking for ways to get around toughness 8 and 6 wounds. Rending, or anything that causes ID is good. Unfortunately, CSM is pretty short of both of those things.
You can probably ignore that Autarch on the jetbike. He's about 130 points for a fusion gun and maybe some S6 CC attacks. There's more important things to shoot

Daemon Allies for CSM?
Daemonettes (on foot or mounted) both bring a TON of rending attacks that will erase low model count units.

In all cases, melee is a decent option. Chaos can almost to a unit win the melee fight against everything except wraithblades, necron have wraiths for melee and he won't expect a tau fire warrior troop to charge his serpent, because haywire grenades are your friend. D scythe wraiths are your biggest threat on both lists, they will wipe a unit, but after that, they are much more vulnerable.

As people have been saying, range. Range is your friend. If you're super worried about it, cheap melee fodder can also help.
Wraiths are pretty slow and short ranged. You can punish them for that. Also, if you have space marines, grav guns works wonders.

The autarch's rerollable 2+ save is a cover save - hence anything which ignores cover is good.
Blastmasters will kill him dead, and make a nice mess of wraithguard (and wraithknights to a lesser extent). It also ignores jinking cover saves from the serpents, and you can pack two per squad (check the FAQ)
The key to bringing down wraith units is stuff which ignores toughness or has disproportionately high strength.. The Black Mace is a good weapon, too.

Well, I've beaten a list with more Wraths at a local tourney with my Necrons.
Just send your Wraiths against his Wraithguard and ignore the Wraithknight if possible.

Overlord
Ccb, mss, ps, ws
Royal court
Veiltek
3 stormteks
Destroyer lord
Mss
5 warriors
Nightscythe
5 warriors
Nightscythe
6 wraiths
1 whip coil
4 wraiths
Annihilation barge
Annihilation barge
Annihilation barge
1495pts
Don't know what points you are playing but this is what I would use at 1500pts.
Annihilation barges and the royal court are used to take down the serpents. The royal court deepstrikes near one and releases 12 haywire shots. The nightscythes can also contribute when they arrive. Drop off warriors on objectives on the way.
Destroyer lord goes with unit of 6 wraiths giving them PE. Make sure the single whip coil gets in contact with the wraith knight and the DL for use of the mss.
Overlord on barge is shielded by the unit of 4 wraiths (he has a 3++ anyway due to the phase shifter but they shield him from a wraithknight charge). He can charge the wraithknight too along with the wraiths, and then take hits on the wraiths. Some people play that he can join units (which he can RAW), but thats just stupid and will likely cause an argument with your opponent. Just put the wraiths around him.
Use both wraith units and the overlord to hunt down his wraithguard units once they have had to bail from the serps. Use the anni barges as bait.

With expensive Eldar wraith units , your opponent will be limited by points.
I don't know Necrons, but Tesla gets extra shots on a 6? Take a lot of that, and swamp the enemy is dice.
If they rely on seers, target them first. Snipe if you have to, challenge if you can.
As for Wave Serpents, close combat is their Achilles Heel. With a rear armour of 10, and no help from the shield, claw your way through the hatch.
None of those armies have much by way of poison choices? It's great against high-T models.

That's not bad, but might do with a bit more optimizing.
(eg. you wouldn't need 3 Storm-teks with the Veil-tek, 2 would be enough)
Though, if you wanted killier over scoring, you can drop the 5 Warriors and their Ark, the Tomb Blade, 1 Wraith (and 1 Whip Coil & Caster) and the Veil-tek's shroud to add 5 Deathmarks, 5 Scarabs, and a third Annihilation Barge.

Although I have personally found that due to jink being avaliable (and 1 better) in 7th from turn1, 2 stormteks are not enough against a serp. Automatically Appended Next Post: Bloody skimmers :-p!
