To conduct oneself in an honorable manner,
to make good use of those opportunities which present themselves, for one's own enjoyment,
to open oneself to the possibility of games which are uncomfortable, not for reasons of perfidy, but of newness and strangeness to which all are sometimes averse,
and to encourage and uphold the love of the game, as the greatest good for the community,

I do hereby present this guide to the discerning pickup gamer.

Upon receiving a challenge from a stranger, follow these steps:

First, each player shall place their army list down on the table, face-down. Each player will then pick up and read their opponent's army list.

Upon reading your opponent's army list, you may be entitled to an Army Save:
4+: Wave Serpent Spam
5+: Superheavy spam, Flier spam
6+: All other spam

If you make your Army Save, the challenge has failed.

Orks and Sisters of Battle armies are treated as having AP6 for this stage.

If you fail your Army Save, you may still be entitled to a Feel No Paint roll:
4+: Grey Plastic
5+: Primed
6+: Three Color Minimum

If you make your Feel No Paint roll, the challenge has failed.

If you are not entitled to an Army Save or a Feel No Paint roll, or in the course of failing your rolls, the challenge has succeeded and your reluctance is removed as a casualty. You shall play the game, with all good sportsmanship and with no grumbling: neither for bad dice, nor for unfavorable matchups, nor for putrid odours.

You shall accept the fate dealt to you, that you shall be a source of companionship for these short few hours to this challenger. For who can tell what dire circumstances they may have left at home, to need to fire thirty Scatter Laser shots at you after seizing the initiative? Therefore do not be hasty to deal out judgment, but in even-handedness bear with all things.

Riptides can be 4+, Nids are still 6+, even with skyblight perhaps? Maybe 5+ if Flyer spam also equals FMC spam.

They need a whole lot more than that. In my local group we ended up putting together a homebrew codex that was a mix of the old and new codex's, taking the better units from each.

Poor guy still has an uphill battle each game.

Does he use the new Forge World units? They seem like they fill some important gaps for the bugs.

(Not that it matters, but yes, I had intended for Riptides and Wraithknights to be considered superheavies for the purpose of the Army Save, and FMCs to be fliers. May not be technically correct, but brevity trumps.)

Hopefully only in that it's always hard to spend our precious time on someone else! Sometimes those very people whose company we don't enjoy are the ones who really need it. A bit of friendship can mean so much to them.

Just imagine what it would be like if 40k General were filled with "Playing with the Angel" instead of "Dancing with the WAAC"...

I think people will just find any excuse possible to whine about someone's list being OP just because they can't figure out a counter or expect to show up with a random fluffy bunny list and be able to beat an optimized min/max list. I will accept any pickup game someone wants to play. If you want to run revenant titans and wave serpents or 5 riptides, go for it. I bet I'll still have fun. I don't believe in dictating what list my opponent should play.

Nice.
I can just see this in action.

Well sir, it would appear that I passed the spam save. Looks like I don't have to play your beardy WAAC army after all. Good day…

and if they don't get the message:

Super heavy can't be spammed.

only 1 at a time.

But it should include other things like known.... powerful WAAC builds. that's at least 6+

Isn't there an Imperial Knight formation where you can have three on the table?

I'm curious how this works. How do you fit 5 superheavies in a battleforged list?

You may be too learned for me! I don't play MtG, and don't know of any reference. (I actually started with the idea of modeling it after another famous document, but quickly dropped the idea.)

MtG fluff has a group called the Phyrexians (sp?) who are into the whole 'cybernetics eat your soul' thing in a big way. They have a ritual of adulthood where the final implants are put in that turn you from an independent, free-thinking person to a soulless drone. This ritual is called "Compleating" or "becoming Compleat." I think at a pun between complete (as in whole) and pleat (as in folded together).

The closest I can get is 5 in 2075.

5x {Company Command Squad (60), Veteran Squad (60), Veteran Squad (60), Malcador Heavy Tank (235)}. Each CAD is 415 points.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Compleat is also an antiquated way of spelling "complete." As in "Dr. John Dee's Compleat Translation of the Book of Ye Mad Arabe, Al-Azif, The Necronomicon." Nice MtG trivia, though.

It's this. Must've done my math wrong.
