I thought I'd make a thread for my completed tau, I'm slowly working my way towards a full army (although I paint very slowly, so I'll not be updating this too often!) All photos are taken without flash as it makes the yellow look awful for some reason.

Very nice, for some reason has a kind of 80's transformer retro feel to it to me, but clean and cool.

I like the "searchlight" (or whatever) conversion on the Skyray, neat little touch that.

Thanks very much people, that's very encouraging! The 'searchlight' made from a shield generator was actually to cover up some poor assembly on the sky ray (I bought it as a preowned ebay model). I do think it looks quite effective there

If anyone has any C+C then I'd be happy to hear it!

Almost finished the rest of the kroot squad. My next projects will be more gun drones and a few more crisis suits (including a shadowsun stand in conversion )

Interesting color scheme, always nice to see someone use uncommon colors. I myself use purple and dark green for my tau.

Only thing i notice and this is more of a personal peeve than anything else, but your riptide's picture right foot looks twisted as all hell lol. Sorry im just that kinda guy that notices when someone puts the feet on their crisis suits on backwords so the "toe" is outside rather than in, so i noticed the twisted ankle on the riptide immediately.

Also i noticed you have an oldschool broadside in there for another crisis suit. Dont blame you lol i plan to do the same thing eventually....stupid railguns are so useless and the old models are so lame compared to the new anyway.

Very nicely painted. Clean and sharp, just like Tau should be

EDIT: Oh, and white highlighting parts FTW!!
edit: ok for some reason my pic is super massive on these forums lol....heres my Skyray ----> http://imgur.com/UdaimYB

I think these look fantastic! Just some CC though in that I can see a lot of brush strokes and bits that have been slightly missed. This is only on close inspection though, I am being very critical!

Great colour though, love it!

Thanks very much for the detailed feedback Vineheart, you are clearly a battlesuit foot connoisseur!

Looking back on it, yes I see your point about the riptide foot, didn't think about it too much at the time, it seems he may have sprained his ankle lol. One of the suits does actually have the toe on the outside, which I again hadn't noticed - I guess thats a risk of using eBayed minis from multiple sources. I did put the broadside's feet on though. For some reason I had a spare pair hanging around so I thought I'd make a substitution for a bit more variety

I like your purple tau on the gallery - we do seem to have used some white armour plates in similar places!

Thanks, Bloodgenesis and Relentless 136. Which places did you particularly notice the brushstrokes? I can see a few missed bits from these pictures too

Ha oddly enough i didnt even notice the crisis suit foot. Now that you bring it up i see it. Its not that big of a deal, i only notice it because i play the army and its one of those minor details i tend to pick up on. ALL of my crisis suits are second hand, and none of them are painted yet because i had to do so much renovating work to make them even usable (crud paint removal, re-positioning arms/feet, and magnetizing weapons) that i havent felt like painting them yet. I really should, since thats the largest chunk of my army that isnt painted yet.

Anyway i doubt anyone on the table would notice the feet unless they look close. Still have very good paintjobs and that draws more attention than a twisted foot lol. Also nothing wrong with the broadside feet, i actually prefer them over the normal crisis suit ones but theyre a bit harder to snag for mass use lol

Excellent! Really well painted and a great colour scheme! The sept markings are really well done.

Looking forward to seeing how you do a shadowsun conversion.

Any intentions to paint a fireblade cause I'd love to see what you'd do with it and how it would look in your colours?

@ Vineheart - thanks for making me think I will certainly be spending more time deciding how my suits feet will look in future.

@Taffy - Cheers, I do quite enjoy painting the sept markings on! I do a lighter yellow stripe at the end of them and then neaten up with some more blue. I'll post 'shadowsun' up when it's done, but it may be a while yet I'm going to base it off a crisis suit body as I don't really think the GW shadowsun would fit in with the suit team that well. I'm going to make some sort of shield to be the 'stealth generator'

The fireblade is a cool mini but I've not intention to paint one so far. I'd use a light grey for the cloth, white for the cloak and the armour in the usual blue and white. I'm not sure whether I'd put sept markings on the cloak or not though - I wasn't entirely happy about how they came out on the ethereal!

Here are a few more kroot, finishing my first squad of 10. One thing I'm not sure is whether to paint some yellow sept markings on their blue shoulder pads. Would it look good or just be a bit much?

Another project I'm starting is a converted broadside with the HYMP mounted on the hand-held railgun (like yours vineheart )

Thank you! It's games workshop teclis blue on all side facing panels, blending upwards towards lothern blue on the surfaces facing skywards and highlighted appropriately. I just loved the colours when I saw them on the paint stand and decided to start a whole army in them

Nice lookig Tau mate!

Some yellow on the kroot might make them pop a bit more, but I suppose it's really dependent on the execution. Try it out on of them and see how it turns out. They look great as is in any case.

Looking forward to more!

Another suit completed. This one represents an onager gauntlet using the sword from the old commander farsight model. The winged missile pods are from the riptide kit I believe.

That blue looks amazing and do you have plans for a battle damage on any future ones? Awesome work by the way.

Thanks very much - currently I wasn't thinking of applying any weathering to this army, I was going to stick with the factory fresh tau aesthetic. Maybe I'll go for a more rugged look for my next project, whatever that should be

Thanks, the scanner on the front of the sky ray was actually a bit of cover up work - it was a second hand model that someone had assembled with a burst cannon at the front (despite them not actually being armed with them). The shield generator covered it quite nicely

That model needed a LOT of work to get it looking presentable...
