Subject: Fremen?

I've not started infinity but am considering it for its skirmish nature & my general disgust with GW & 40k. However, I've been dying to run a unit of Fremen commandoes from Dune. My thoughts just from a quick read is that perhaps the Haqqislam might work well for them, but I'm majorly open to suggestions to those who are more familiar with the fluff & playstyle of the various factions.
I'll probably be building these minis from scratch or at least hugely converted so I'm also open to suggestions which models in the range might make at least good starting points.
Thanks so much for your ideas & advice. It's much appreciated!

I'm not really a Dune expert, but Fremen are supposed to be some of the toughest most awesome fighters out there right? If you were trying to capture that aspect, and since you're making custom models anyway, I might take the Morat sectorial from Combined Army. Morats are all about having the biggest guns and smashing the most opponents in close combat. (they aren't known for their subtlety though, so they might not be the best choice for sneaky commandos come to think of it) That's an out there suggestion but it might give you a good rules base to work from.

Well, all the spice silk comes from Haqqislam, so I think they would be the most suitable?

Haqqislam all the way they even have the look and the assassin would be great as elite Fremen. I was going to go this route when I started but settled on Nomads, then ALEPH, then CA, then... will I'll get there someday .

See that was kinda my thoughts but I don't know enough about the factions in terms of gameplay. Plus the Fremen were very much Islamic resemblent, especially with them running a Jihad at the behest of the Emperor & Muad'dib himself.
I'm leaning toward the Qapu Khalqi starter. How easy would it be to GS robes onto them to resemble Fremen do you think? I realize the helmets aren't real Fremen like but if I GS a hood over it, shouldn't be too big a deal.
Oh, additionally, this may sound like a dumb question, but where do I find the rules for models? I take it they don't come with rules right?

The robes would depend on you skill with GS, but shouldn't be to hard.
Note, N3 or Infinity 3rd edition is going to drop around the end of the year. As of now all 2nd ed. rules (except the campaign system) are free online at the Infinity website on the Downloads page. This has all the army list and stats, but in to 4 or 5 links. Or a easier way use the Army Builder link on the website front page at the bottom. All the skills and equipment are hot-linked to the rules in the online wiki. When N3 comes out it to will be free online too (maybe a month or 2 after the book is out).

Awesome thanks. One final (hopefully not too stupid) question. My gf pays Sisters of Battle in 40k. As she'll be my primary opponent what faction & models would these be good proxies for? I saw the Riot Grrls for the nomads but till I'm at a computer vs my phone with poor data signal I can't view the army lists. For those not familiar sisters of battle are nuns in powered armor with assault rifles, flame throwers, & thermal short ranged anti armor rifles. There are also some fanatics with no armor or guns & just a huge chainsword.

If you're just trying to use a proxy that makes sense, you could go with Nomads. I did not know this about them until recently, but apparently there's a whole faction of religious people involved with the Nomads who got kicked out of Pan Oceanea for being too insane/fanatical. And believe it or not most of them are female. If you wanted a direction to grow the army in as you bought models the Bakunin sectoral has all of the "Reverend" type units (which are what I was referring to earlier) as well as having Riot Grrls available as a heavy infantry choice.
This assuming the lady would prefer to play a similar theme of army to her 40k collection. If not, well then the Bakunin would let her use her SoB in a way that at least partially makes sense untill she decides what kind of army she does want to play.

They left becouse they belive ALEHP to be a incarnation of the devil and then the church made a deal with it.
But, they were may first idea too. But, then I got a mental image of them doing a all female Steel Phalanx and I think it is a better fit play style wise. Lots of chaingun, shotgun, and spitfires for close firefights and good hand to hand abilities. Very mobile overall up close style with limited long range support.

Honestly I find that it depends on how you build your haqqislam force. But generally, they have a lot of doctors and models with regeneration running about. They're hard to put down and stay down. They also have quite nice light infantry and, as a combined/yu jing player I tend to discount lights on the field. Do that with Haqq and you get a heavy flamethrower to the face. I find that they're a bit on the lower end of the tech tree, but make up for it in various ways.

Fremen are highly religious, skilled at guerrilla warfare with light infantry, and more than a little physically augmented by the harsh ecology they live in.
Yeah, Haqqislam is basically perfect for them (right down to the stranglehold on some kind of vitally important resource necessary for immortality).
I'd probably run them as Hassassins, myself. Though vanilla would probably be even more flexible in this regard.

Everyone thanks for the help. I'm convinced. I'm ordering the QK starter set tomorrow. Going to run them as vanilla haqq. One of the hafza will get some serious GS work to become a muyib (I'm thinking the one with the spitfire which I'll then saw apart & rebuild slung by the arrogant arms crossed guy). ALL will be getting GS robes. Future purchases? I'm thinking Tuaregs as they just fit the theme. Maybe some ghulam but they seem way too... average to be Fremen. Now I'm just basing all this off a basic understanding of the rules & reading their fluff. None of the additional models will be for quite awhile though as we elected to preorder Operation Icestorm so we're broke for awhile. She's going with the nomads though because she likes their look & we agree they'd take to her SoB color scheme, of purple armor, black clothing & orange details, pretty well.
Think I'll do the PanO like Riley's Rangers from fallout 3.
