I am thinking of starting a HH army and have a lot of regular marines kicking about. Money being an issue I wanted to know if lore wise the Ultramarines/Raven Guard/Space Wolves had access to the MK7 armor which is what your regular marines in 40k wear?

MKVII only went into production literally as the forces of Horus overran Mars and the production of the new armour mark was transferred to Earth. The initial suits were sent to Marines on Earth and the moon so Imperial Fists, Blood Angels and White Scars should probably have had access to those suits.

Hmm, guess my plan to get a heresy army on the cheap won't work then.

Well the Raven Guard are often shown in MKVI so thematically it wouldn't make much sense for them to wear MKVII anyway. Ultramarines and Space Wolves likely didn't get resupplied until after Horus defeat.

Could you not re-paint some Marines?

Hmm, that was my thoughts. I want to dust off a lot of my old ultramarines models and then paint them up to use in heresy. When I start my new job I can afford to buy limited numbers of actual heresy models but its not something I want to spend crazy money on and I would like a big core of infantry. Trouble is if its really unfluffy then its hard to pull off.

Mk. 7 is late late war. Unless all you want to do is siege of terra then I suggest either converting or buying the proper models.

Use the models you have and play the game you want to play! You can say, your legion was the test legion for the Mk.7 and had early access to the alpha prototypes.
