So I just want to make sure I have this right.
The knight lancer can be taken with "any" imperial army as a lord of war.
So if took 2 INQ cad armies I could take 2 knight lancers and the take a knight det and run 3 more knights? Is that right?

Or to satisfy the 1850 tournaments I would drop one lancer and INQ then switch one of the normal knights to the 500 point one and change the inquisitor to Coteaz with 3 monkeys. Are there any problems with what I am trying to do?

No you cant take them as part of INQ because INQ cannot take a lord of war. but if you take 2 CADs then you could something like this

CAD 1
Hq
troop
troop
Lord of war

CAD 2
Hq
troop
troop
lord of war

Knight Detachment

you have 0 LOW slots in the INQ detachment, so no go on the lancers that way.

there is something called a knight detachment though, so you could take the INQ + knight detachment

The Inquisitorial Detachment presented in Codex: Inquisition doesn't have a Lords of War slot.

A Combined Arms Detachment does have a Lords of War slot, but as Codex: Inquisition doesn't have any Troops choices, it is impossible to fulfill the CAD's two Troops requirement.

As mentioned, you just take an Inquisitorial Detachment and then either an Imperial Knights Detachment or a Combined Arms Detachment with some other Armies of the Imperium Faction and include the LoW with the CAD.

Most codex dont have LOW option, that is all the rule book and data slates from escalation and forge world sources. i am referring to this PDF that is legal in most local tournaments. www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/L/lancer.pdf
this is a data sheet that states it can be taken as a LOW for "ANY" Imperium army.

in fact im not sure if any codex show fortifications, but.. they can still be used by every army. so the data slate should be able to be used. or am i still missing something?

You are missing something.

It's sort of a strange situation, but here goes.

Codex: Inquisition is 'allowed' to take a numer of Lord of War choices. The Lancer is one of them. The best way to imagine this is to imagine that the Lancer is included in the Codex.

Now, we decide to actually build an army. I need to use a detachment. Codex: Inquisition potentially has access to three.

Combined Arms Detachment - I can't use this because I have no Troops choices and can't fulfill the requirement.

Allied Detachment - Again, I can't fulfill the Troops requirement.

Inquisitorial Detachment - I can use this! What's my FOC look like?

1-2 HQ
0-3 Elites

Oh man, no spot for a LoW on that FOC. I guess I can't take one. :(

So, Codex: Inquisition potentially has access to LoW, but can't actually field them since they would only be available in a Combined Arms Detachment and Codex: Inq can't fulfill the requirements of a Combined Arms Detachment.

I hope this helps.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
You can always take an Imperial Knights Detachment alongside your Inquisitorial Detachment. Then you could take a Lancer.

It's actually the same reason Codex: Legion of the Damned can't use a Lancer. They don't have any Troops choice and so can't fulfill the requirements of a Combined Arms Detachment.

Codex: LotD has a special Legion of the Damned Detachment that is just 0-3 Elites.
