A friend and I are returning to 40k after a hiatus of about 15 years and have decided to ease ourselves back in at 500 points (with a view to building up from there). He'll be playing orks and will be my main opponent.

My draft list is below - views would be very welcome! I'm fairly ignorant about tactics but have tried to give myself a solid mass of troops (blob squad), supported by some firepower (hellhound, CCS) and mobility (chimera vets). I've tried to have a mix of units because this way I can experiment and get a feel for how I'd like to develop the army as it grows.

Thanks in advance. Please be brutal! It's the only way I'll learn...

Doesn't look to bad! First glance, I'd drop the voxes. At first, when I started, I really like them and made models with them but unfortunately it ends up coming a little short. I suggest using them and just seeing how you like them. There's no glaring holes in your list so I'd just suggest play it and have some fun!

Thanks for the reply! I wasn't convinced of the merits of the voxes either - not having played yet, I don't know how useful they are in practice. Perhaps I'll trade them in for another plasma gun in the vet squad.

That sounds like a pretty solid plan. With two plasma in the chimera, you can get shots out of the top while staying in the transport. Like I said before I'd just suggest trying it all out and seeing what you like.

Oh and welcome go Dakka Dakka!

Will do, and thanks for the welcome! I'll be sure to report back, most likely after my poor guardsmen have been chopped and dakka'd into bits and pieces...
