Really good looking conversions and the painted figs look great in the reddish color scheme.
You could try how stronger edge highlight in the cloth areas would suit the figs. It might give you more definite areas in the figs and that might please eye more. The overall scheme is dark and this could give it a bit of a lift without messing with the atmosphere you are trying to achieve with them.
I would change the basing to more yellowish color as the figs are not currently popping out of their bases. There is not enough contrast between bases and the figs imo.
Can't help with the pigments, I have only used brush to apply them either dry or on water/ alcohol. Have you tried pigment fixer which is applied after the pigments?

Thanks for the critique.
As these are test figures it was more about working out colours for me... Edging the cloth will work better though I really want to keep the dark look. I may pop a few more layers on and see what happens.
I agree on the contrast between bases and models. For my alien nid army that worked well the models were very dark but the bases were very bright.
I really want to achieve a Mars/Forgeworld etc base theme though and the main colours I imagined were either dark grey/black or red (as in photo) and I don't think either of these will make the contrast work. Any pics of the yellowish colour or other suggestions?
Something like this maybe?
or this:
Anyone have any other pics/ideas that may work for basing?
Cheers for the feedback as always

Had a play around with numerous options and personally I think this contrasts a little better. I have to repaint the tracks and attach the model but you can get the idea.
What do people think? Does the base work better?
Still a wip but I feel I'm getting there.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

Contrasts better, is lighter than photograph shows. Final version will be more yellow. What do people think? Does the green gunge and desert style work together?
(the model is not glued in the correct position- just trying to demonstrate colours)
Thanks

The second base works better.
The green is adding another nice contrasting element and it makes the base look warm, which adds another contrasting element.
The difference it makes to the figs is big one, I think you are on right track with those.

Yup... Thanks for the idea. I didn't think it would work but it turned out well.
I may add some more texture to the bases to increase the contrast but pretty happy overall.
Thanks again...

Great stuff, very nice conversions and a simple yet effective paint scheme. I'm always on the lookout for cheap/simple Ad Mech ideas, so this will be very inspirational.

Thanks for all the comments people. I am on hols tomorrow for 2 weeks but I am happy that I have found a basing scheme that works before I go. I have also accidentally just ordered quite a bit of Forgeworld goodness to plug the gaps/

The random wire hanging out of sockets - are they potential cybernetics that the admech just assumes these lowly troops don't really need to function as bullet shields? Looks great so far.

Once again, not the best photos due to a lack of working light box but they give a fairly basic idea of what the grunts will look like. The first unit of 20 is now 6 down! Only 52 to go.
Quick to paint and will look ok en masse. The bases look much better in my opinion.
My Forgeworld order has just come through and I have glued (and blutacked) my counts-as knight ready for airbrushing.

9 Ursarax counts-as to befriend my Arch Magos.
I got a bit carried away with Clear Red but oh well!
The photo with flash on is pretty poor but it shows the blood fairly well. Once I get the next unit done I will take some proper pictures.

Cheers - I am 90% sure they are a Dystopian Wars French tank chassis. Unfortunately I bought them so long ago I cannot remember which chassis. Perhaps somebody else could help? Automatically Appended Next Post: Little note to keep organised:
