Hey guys.
Something came up in the store today (as a theoretical, not an actual issue), and I was told that Vect + Coteaz (at least, I think it was Vect) means you'd get a 4+ re-rollable seize the initiative.
Is this right?
I imagine not, but their argument is that "since it's before the game, neither of them are benefiting from the other's ability". Doesn't sound right to me.

Sounds phooey to me, I would have thought they could only use 1 rule to effect seize the initiative at 1 time. Nothing to do with the game not having started.

It works fine. Vect seizes on a 4+. Coteaz lets you reroll failed seizes.

It is a lot of points to spend though.. and useless if you already go first.

I believe theirs a way to drop it down to a 2+ rerollable (but requires unbound or somting crazy) probably necrons or something.

I used this tactic and it sure is fun.

The mind games you can play with your opponent when he KNOWS you steal 75% of the time are hilarious.. I even lets the other person deploy first, safe in the knowledge i will either steal from him or he will deploy defensively in anticipation of me doing it. The alpha strike is just wonderful!

It is a lot of points, but using the old GK codex the troop tax was 18pts of henchmen and you got the added bonus of fitting in a Vindicare Assasin, which is always nice. Give it a go, you can make lots of fun lists safe in the knowledge you are going first the vast majority of the time.

But if you let the other person go first, you give up the ability to seize the initiative.

If you let the other person go first, yes.
But he's letting them deploy first. You may still steal if you choose to deploy second.

Didn't think you could let someone deploy first without it also allowing them to go first, but I will review the wording when I get a chance.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

Point 4 in the Standard Deployment Method informs us that the player whom Deployed first gets to decide if they wish to go first. So if someone lets their opponent Deploy first they are also giving up the ability to simply choose to go First, it is entirely on the opponent to who gets First Turn. Stealing the Initiative is still an option of course, but only if the player whom Deployed first does not choose to also go second... in which case it would be pointless to try and steal anyway.
