Is there anything that succeeds at defeating interceptor?

My buddy has an all or almost all interceptor tau army. Three riptides and a boat load of broadsides and suits. I think everything has interceptor.

It scares my drop pod army.

Any suggestions?

Spread out your bros to minimize the damage by the riptide's large blast. The broadsides are tough to negotiate around. While their main weapon is only AP4, they pump out a ton of shots. Another thing to keep in mind is that with EWO (interceptor upgrade for Tau), you're only allowed to fire 1 weapon when intercepting.

You could also hope for Gate of Infinity and start with your kill squad on the board then deep strike them where you want them. Interceptor won't work on them since they aren't coming out of reserves.

Drop pods aren't all that bothered by intercepting riptides. Here's why:

i) You can spread out when you disembark. Do so and he should be hitting no more than 3 guys per big blast at best. Compare this to poor terminator squads, who drop in and then cannot move before they are hit in the face with pie plates

ii) The shots won't benefit from markerlights therefore are less effective than if he just waits are shoots you in his turn.

iii) if he intercepts, then his markerlights can't support the riptides in his following turn.

iv) Now buff commanders can not longer join riptides, there is no way for his intercept to ignore cover (or prevent its get hot rolls).

Use these to your advantage, and it won't seem all that bad.

Broad sides with missile pods will just ruin your day unless you can make aloooot of armor saves.

Deploy out of line of sight. He can't intercept what he can't see.

Sounds like he has kinda tailored his list against yours.

Switchup to something completely different.

Remember there are still a lot of limitations to interceptor.

The big one is the Tau player cannot fire any weapon he used for interceptor firing in the following shooting phase, so the total shooting output of the army does not change.

The other big limitation is that none of the Tau shooting buffs work when he is using interceptor weapons. Command & Control Nodes and MultiSpectral Sensor Suites only work during the Tau shooting phase. Same for multitrackers. There are also no markerlights on the board. Basically, the Tau player has almost zero access to his shooting buffs. Each model is limited to firing only one weapon and only at its pitiful BS3, and you get cover saves unless that weapon is an SMS/ABFP or Flamer.

In the case of the Riptide IA, it is almost preferable to take the interceptor shot. It can fail because of gets hot, is likely to scatter off the mark, and you can take cover saves against it. This is far preferable to taking a BS6 no cover save allowed shoot from the IA in the following round. A sound tactic is to actually try and bait the Tau player into taking the interceptor shot. As a Tau player myself, I will actually avoid using interceptor on the Riptide unless the arriving unit is going to inflict some serious damage to turn it arrives, because firing the weapon at BS3 is such a gamble.

This. Or deploy behind the Pods for cover saves. You'll probably lose out on the alpha strike though, so it might be better to just take the beating...

Or, y'know, run Rhinos.

since you are using marine pods. Drop in his face. Make it to risky to fire those large blast.

After the pod lands more right up on him. I mean We are talking Tau, assault is not something you are going to be worried about. This one time when assault marines in a pod would be even better than normal marines.

As barnowl said... I find if it's blast weapons your afraid of then deploy that one inch away from him... however if you think that this is too risky using the pod for cover is never a bad thing.

Carcharodon Astra, by the Emporer it is willed.

Regular ones are still better. Cause they shoot 2 times better with their bolters. Still win in close combat but have better chances of not winning outright so that they're protected from return fire. That's the case when less killiness in mellee is better.

Irrelevant. You can't intercept what you can't see, even if you can shoot what you can't see.
