Subject: Official pronunciation of 'Vindicare'

Hi folks,
So I'm a little confused what the official pronunciation for Vindicare (as in Vindicare Assassin) is. Particularly how to tackle to 'A'.
Is it pronounced Vindicare, with A as in Bear, Hair, Square?
or is it pronounced Vindicare, with A as in Car, Far, Hard?
I have always pronounced it the latter way, but I have noticed lots of people pronounce it differently (usually one of those two). Although I've even heard some people pronounce it as if the E at the end had its own inflection like Amore´.
Giving a reply to the effect of - "its pronounced this way, because I have always done it that way" isn't very helpful obviously, so I was hoping someone could shed light on an official pronunciation, hopefully citing a source to back it up.
Regards,
Xander

Vin (as in Vin Diesel)
DEE
care (as in hair, bear, share)
Vin-Duh-car sounds too much like vinegar in my accent.

Do you have some kind of source material to show that it is that?
Like I said above, claiming it's one and not the other without giving it some kind of evidence means that you're answer could just be a subjective shot at it. I'm after the games workshop official pronunciation.

The second one, because it's a Latin word and they don't really have pronunciation like 'hair'.

If it is definitely based off of the Latin, then I can say right now as I used to study Latin that the -are suffix is pronounced as two separate syllables (ah-reh) - a bit like that Amore´ example.
That definitely sounds wrong in my head, but it would make sense that it's based on the Latin word 'to avenge/to punish'.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

My accent is almost English. GW are an English company run by Englishman and the official pronunciation is whatever they say it is. Other than that, no evidence other than the fact Vin-di-car sounds dumb as feth.

Vin-di-cah-reh A as in car. It is a Latin word, and vin-di-cear (as in bear) just sounds ridiculous.

And what exactly is your point?
We have the "Vindicare Assassin from Dataslate: Officio Assassinorum".
The only English word in that line might be the word 'from', the rest are from other languages. And even 'from' is a Germanic word in origin.
So next time think before you call something dumb as feth.

The closest I could find is this:
https://translate.google.nl/#auto/en/vendicare
In the right-bottom corner there is a speaker, so you can hear how it should sound.

This is what I assume to be the "proper" pronunciation. However, the times I say it out loud I think I always pronounce it rhyming with "bear," and I think it's one of those cases where when I first encountered it, the pronunciation I first used stuck in my mind. But thinking about it, I agree that "Vin-di-car-eh" makes more sense. Erm, it's not a word I use often.
However, if you're seeking an "official" pronuniciation that could prove to be hard work. You would probably have to find a recording of an interview or suchlike where the designers discuss it, which isn't exactly a simple task.

Vindicare most likely comes from the Italian verb "Vendicare" which means to avenge, vindicate. In Italian it's pronounced Vehn-dee-kah-reh. However, Vindicare is not Italian and can be pronounced however you want it to be pronounced.
Vin-dee-care is the most popular anglo pronunciation for the word.

Italian "vendicare" is derived directly from latin verb "vindicare" (1st coniugation... for those interested: vendico, -as, -avi, -atum, -are), which the latin noun "vindicta, -ae" (= revenge) comes from.. but I digress.
The pronunciation of the latin word is simply (for Italians :p ) veen-dee-kah-reh (accent on the a).
Edited for spelling.

Vindi-Care
Vindi as in "I'm vindictive" and Care as in "I couldn't really CARE less about how it was pronounced in a long dead language. Get with the times, people"
So many of us swedes (yes, I am one too, despite the ugly flag by my name) mistakingly think every V in English is a W, so they pronounce any word they say with an English accent with a W. English people use the single V too, and there is no reason to start Vindicare with a W.
Unless you're like Gotlandian or something and are actually pronouncing it in your own accent, then go for it.

Repeating it a few times to myself, I realise I actually pronounce it with a 'v', not 'w'.
Vindikär.
