The Ocean

How is life quality within the Human Sphere? Do civilians live happy lives? I've delved into the Infinity lore for most of the past week, so I can assume that life in the Human Sphere is nowhere near the levels of grimdark as a certain other game.

Life in PanOceania is similar to nowadays first world, only faster, flashier and spread through few planets. There's a conflict between higher and lower class but we're not given the full extent of it.

Spoiler:

The people on the frontier of Humans Sphere have it the worst as corporations are given free reign on how things are supposed to run. Yu Jing also does the same, but in their case the companies are more dependant on the whims of government. Suffice to add that frontier settlements are often boxing ring between Yu Jing and PanOceania with people stuck in between (Scarface background).

Yu-Jing is a bit less flashy with random homeland security drop ins and random screens for enemies of the state.

Quality of Life is superior in pretty much every country, except Ariadna.

PanO is basically all of our western lifestyle, plus a decadent virtual internet full of awesome things. Plus, the chance for the rich, public serving, or lucky to get a new body after death that's better than their old one.

YuJing has a similar quality of life, if a little lower. Likely superior to many modern first world nations. The only issue is the police state type stuff and hunting for subversives.

Haqqislam has a similar quality of life or superior. They have most of the future amenities, plus healthcare beyond anyone else's. Their planet isn't super comfortable, but it's good enough for most.

Nomads are basically space 4chan who can do whatever the hell they want. Do you crave orgies with large cheetah-men? All yours. Want to genetically engineer your entire body into a lightshow? Sure...

Ariadna is like living in a fortress that's constantly being attacked at night by giant intelligent wolves, and having a techbase at best slightly ahead of modern, and with decidedly limited resources making everyone hardened. Not so great.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Pretty good summary there by Killionaire.

Love that bit of artwork that Knight posted, always think that illustrates modern society in the Human Sphere pretty well - also something like 'Ghost in the Shell', I would guess (if you are familiar with that movie/series).

Well worth picking up the artbook if you get the chance, there is a lot of awesome stuff in there and you also get a bit of blurb about each faction and the kind of society they are.

That would be the Bakunin nomad ship. Corregidor ship on the other hand by the time you are 6 you are working in airducts to earn you keep.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

I recommend to read book Neuromancer, its not exactly the same, but it will help build up image.

"Faith is the soul of any army; be it vested in primitive religion or enlightened truth. It makes even the least soldier mighty, the craven is remade worthy and through its balm any hardship may be endured. Faith ennobles all of the worlds the soldier undertakes be they so base or vile, and imports to them the golden spark of transcendent purpose."

Better yet - try and track down the comic adaptation (well, part 1 at least. It never got finished AFAIK). It's worth it.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

You can also read Appleseed and GitS. As they are major influences on the background.

And if you are not doing your part you get free ticket for space walk without a suit, but as long as you contribute I asume life can be comfty there.

Every Nomad kid want to be a Tomcat when they grow up.
