Greetings Dakka, I'm just putting up this poll to get a general opinion on a suggested house rule of mine from you guys if you don't mind.
I suggested to my regular gaming partner earlier this week a house rule for Imperial Guard to be able to take a Heavy Stubber as a special option in infantry and veteran squads (instead of having flamers/ plasmaguns/ meltaguns), at 5pts extra apiece, as I'd like to model some flamers into Stubbers for a bit of variety in my infantry squads. My question then is whether this is a fair rule.

I would say it's okay, but in all fairness, unless the weapon option is there, it's usually not there for some reason. I'm a little skeptical in adding your own weapon options and creating points values, but if your friend is cool with it, well that's the whole spirit of the game!

I would say yes if you take it as a heavy weapons team, not special weapon. I would really like this option since heavy bolters are such a poor option next to autocannons. Compared to a mortar, the stubber isn't OP at 5 points.

Yeah, that's perfectly fine. That's how much Chaos Cultists pay for em, and it's not like they're gamebreaking or anything.

Seems fair to me, either as a HWT or special weapon.

On moon miranda.

I wouldn't see too much of an issue with this, they're not terribly impressive weapons.
As an aside, FW makes them an option for infantry squads in Death Korps units at 10pts and Twin Linked if that helps any.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.
New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

Beat me to it.
To the OP, It's a fair. but the only time i'v had a heavy stubber do anything for me is when I take it as a co-axial on my vanquisher.

Definitely fair. Heavy stubbers are pretty clearly worse than the plasma/melta guns you'd normally take, so the only reason to even consider it would be when you have an extra 5 points and might as well give a meatshield squad a better gun. If you're planning to put them in veteran squads or use them frequently in infantry squads you clearly don't care about winning.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I take them on my chimeras every time.

I like them because I want my guys to have Bren-gun style guns, because they look good. As for winning with my Guard, I'm planning on placing heavy emphasis on my tanks, so the infantry are really just for going to ground on objectives, which is why I like to keep them cheap.
