So, I don't even have the new Codex yet (I just ordered it from Miniatures Market), but thanks to a great friend getting out of the game, and my wife buying an early anniversary gift, I now find myself with a pile of Grey Knights (i'm estimating its about 2600pts).

I've never played the faction, and in fact, usually plays swarms. My usual armies are 'Nids and 'Crons both of which I tend to play at high model counts. As such, this is really exciting for me.

That said, i've got no codex, and no concept of what the faction even plays like. Miniwargaming.com doesn't even have full-length bat-reps up for me to familiarize myself with things.

Can someone look some of this over, and maybe say a few words about anything which comes to mind, or give me some list building tips?

So I now own...

33 Grey Knights (modeled with various things, most with halberds, many with swords, a couple with hammers)
11 Terminators/Paladins (almost all seem to be modeled with halberds, and all have storm-bolters on one arm)
1 Crazy looking Forgeworld Dreadnaught (with one blade arm, and a... multi-melta?)
2 Nemesis Dreadknights (I don't know what these weapons are... one has a sword and a gun on respective arms, one is on sprue so it can be whatever)
1 Stormraven (magnetized with either regular doors or Hellfire bolter options)
1 Landraider (new on sprues)

I'm trying to be better about WYSIWYG as none of my armies to date have ever been built with a serious eye towards that. That said, i'm noticing more and more events around here that are in fact calling for it, so its something i'm trying to be mindful of.

Note, i've played against plenty of regular SM chapters, but have never really played them myself, so assume I don't have that bank of knowledge at my disposal. :-p

In terms of the Dreadknight, have a look at what weapons it has. If it appears to be a multi-barreled rotary cannon similar to a Gatling Gun, its a Gatling Psilincer. If it appears as an oversized bolter (has the 2 holes in the muzzle) its the Heavy Psycannon. The third is a giant flamer like weapon called the Heavy Incinerator.

Also take a look at the terminator's heads. A straight edged "nose" with an angular look is for the Terminator Squad. If the nose-piece is more rounded and knightly looking, its the Paladins. Hope they are the Terminators because Paladins should be running with an Apothecary (has lights on the back and a Chainfist looking hand) and maybe a banner.

The Dreadknight should invariably have Greatswords and Personal Teleporters. Guns is to your preference, though personally I favour the Heavy Psycannon and Heavy Incinerator. The Gatling Psilincer isn't bad. For PAGK, Psycannons suck and Psilincers are much better, but on TDA bodies, Pyscannons all the way.

Agreed Psycannons all the way for Terminators. Psilincers on PAGK though is very meh. On the move they're worse than a stormbolter and you're giving up an AP 3 force weapon to hold one. Stationary they're not bad but a psycannon while stationary is still far better. Unless they made Psilencers Assault 6? I wouldn't take them.

Grey Knights are pretty straight-forward in building. Almost everything comes down to:
Melee weapons: Hammer, Double Falchion-sword, Halberd, Sword or Stave.
Ranged: Storm Bolter, Incinerator (Heavy Flamer), Psilencer (the Force-weapon) and a Psycannon.

Without upgrades that list comes down to 2600 points, so with upgrades you might reach the 3000
The only thing you would probably need is a HQ, a Paladin Apothecary, a Banner-Paladin and perhaps some Power Armoured units if you like those.

So the one assembled Dreadknight seems to have a Psycannon based on the description above.

The Dreadnaught is harder as its a weird Forgeworld model... I swear it looks like a multi-melta on one arm, and the other arm is just a giant blade. Certainly not what I am used to Dreadnaughts looking like.

The Terminators seem to be broken into 5 Plastic ones built as Terminators, and the other six are some kind of old metal kit. Five seem to be Paladins, and the one is a character model of some sort. It kinda looks like a Librarian.

The Librarian guy seems to have a bolter and huge Thunderhammer if that helps.

Also, the Paladin unit has a guy carrying a banner, and another who looks like he has a crozier of some kind.

It's weird because the regular Dreadnought has a Multi-melta, but now a blade-arm.
The Forgeworld-model has a 'Doomglaive', but a Psycannon and not a multi-melta.

Librarian is awesome! It means you have a really strong HQ to start with.
That is probably a Nemesis Daemon Hammer, since you won't find Thunderhammers at Grey Knights
The Crozier is probably a Warding Staff, that is quite nice too.

I think you should definitely take the Codex now, since it seems you have all the models to field a legal and good army.

Oh, and there are old, metal models which seem to be Assassins. Both are sniper looking guys, one with a skull-helmet of a sort.

The fur-collar, "not a Librarian w/hammer and bolter" still eludes identification.

You know... I do own the Space Marines from Space Hulk 3rd Ed, still on sprue. Could I make anything valuable from them for this army?

I long ago ripped it open so that the Genestealers could become part of my 'Nid army, so its ultra-rarity is already gone. :-p

I think it comes with a Librarian in Terminator armor.

It looks just like him, but a totally different model. No eagle, hammer in the opposite hand, and a bolter in the off-hand.

I did identify two of the assassin models as an Evisor with Extermination pistol, and a Vindicare assassin variant model.

Maybe its a custom made Coteaz.

Assassins have fixed equipment, so what the model has on him is not important.

There's about 35 GK lists in the first couple of pages of the 40k lists. I'd cut and past done of those and try it out

You have other armies, just sit and roll dice and work out what's what.

For what it is worth the mystery model has been sorted.

Apparently it was an old Inquisitor of some kind, and the seller essentially just threw it in there. :-p
