I remember seeing a company that did spent cases joined together so that they looked like they were firing from a gun, bit like the ones you get with the flash gitz box but I've forgotten who does them. They need to be quite large as they are for a vulcan megabolter.

I bet you could use styrene rod or even fishing line in the appropriate thickness and make them pretty easily.
