Hey folks!
I'm unpacking all my 40k stuff after years of dis-use. I have a dozen or more 3rd ed. Dark Eldar raiders that I won't ever use again. Hundreds of 2nd Ed. Orks and Gretchin. Just....a lot of stuff that I don't want to throw away because it's "stuff" but that I don't envision anyone else wanting either.
What do you do with your old stuff?

$1 auctions if it has no use. Let people bid on it until its sold. Unless its something people will want of course. But yea thats how I clear junk.

I try to use these old armies as a way to help new players get into the game.
I have a ton of 3rd edition (UGLY) Dark Eldar ... and I used to have a bunch of old 2nd and 3rd edition ork too, but once I had someone interested in the Orks, I gladly handed them over. I'd rather fund someone's starting force (well, I bought them like 15 years ago), especially if I am going to be able to play and cultivate another 40k fanatic, than sell it to a faceless name on ebay.
Though Ebay may be a good option.
That being said, the new dark eldar models are SO MUCH better than my old stuff, I think they're destined to be conversion fodder or a proxy force for someone who is just starting. I did however see someone really convert up some old raider with the new aethersails and such and made them look great, so I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Put them in storage. Have never and will never sell or give my guys away. Sentimental? Sure, but I know a big part of me would regret it if I did. Automatically Appended Next Post: When did you get back Dash btw?

I'm 99% sure that almost all of my little guys are old models now, so I keep 'em, I guess. I can't imagine getting rid of something that I've invested a significant chunk of money and time into.
Plus I still like how the third edition orks look. They got a certain messy style.

Disassemble them for bits. 3x Sentinel Combat Walkers from 2nd edition (the ugly ones) became Vorax automatons in the new Mechanicum list.

Post to the Dakka Swap shop. Some people like the old stuff, and are doing 'Retro Armies" (more with orks than Dark Eldar, I expect). Even if you only get something minor in exchange, you've gotten rid of something that was junk to you, but treasure to someone else. Heck, you might be surprised at what someone else has to trade, especially if you are open to the unexpected (that sounds suggestive, but I meant you might get a cool t-shirt, or custom dice, or something like that).
I keep a few retro orks in my force, but they are there deliberately. The single 2nd edition Ork is the "old fogey" all the lads make fun of. The Epic Gobsmasha is a 'klassic looted wagon' and the RT era battlewagon is another 'kustom klassic' for my flashy Bad Moons. It's not old junk; it's vintage!

as mentioned, help a buddy out and give it to them as gifts for occasions or for a little bit of nothing (hey help me out by changing my oil and I'll give this box-o-models or something silly like that. Sometimes, they couldnt afford to get started otherwise and you'll still get to see your stuff in use.

I just keep using them...
My Dark Eldar are 3rd ed models. My Necrons are 2nd ed/3rd ed models. My Orks are 2nd and 3rd ed models. My Chaos Marines are all 2nd ed. My various Marine armies include a mix of everything back to Rogue Trader, as does the Guard army that I haven't got around to painting yet.
I see no particular reason to stop using them just because they're old.

old models work as well as new ones. I still use my Space wolf metal Terms sometimes. After all if it was not for using old models there would be no inquisitors, Assassins, Or Sisters.
Try looking for an assassin model on GW website. They sold out same for a lot of the inquisitors.

My chaos army was ll older models. Even down to an original land raider and converted RTB01s.It is not about the models being old (unless you just WANT to upgrade to newer ones you think look cooler), it is about having an army that you just dont use anymore or have any inclination to or having older models with bad paint jobs that you would rather buy new to replace then put effort into redoing.

Um, are you looking to sell those 3rd edition Dark Eldar?
Cause I've got a small DE army, all 3rd edition models (so everyone can play nice together), and I'd gladly take them off your hands.

I keep all my stuff, generally. With the exception of 3000pts of Orcs & Goblins which I just gave up on after they remained unpainted for 8 years, and I don't really play fantasy anyways.

Most of the stuff I used to play but never really stuck with I sold to starting players for much less than it cost me. They got a starting army (and then sometimes), I got spending money for my current project.
Current the only really old stuff I've got is my Sisters and if/when new models come out they'll be relegated to my Apoc-only part of my army. They're just too cool to just get rid of completely, but too much of a pain to play regularly and keep actively painted.

I mean, I still use all of my 3rd Edition Nids, and even have a small brood of 2nd Edition Termagants with a Rogue Trader Hunter-Killer thrown in. Ugly little fether but it counts as a Termagant and you can never have too many Termagants. 2nd Edition Marines though are just paint testers and stand-in models. Ancient flamer counts as a plasma gun until I get a new Tac-Squad box since it sure doesn't look like a flamer these days.

What do you do with your old stuff?
I been selling my old stuff off. Is some of it meaningful to me (yes). Will i ever use it is what i ask myself? If no i been putting it up on Ebay at i think decent prices to maybe help someone with a retro army, some new player, etc and maybe get a little money back so i can stay in the hobby. I do not have a lot of income and i pay a lot out for child support etc so my hobby really has been taken down a lot aside form being able to fund it by selling off old figures and such. I paint ok compared to most here (most of what i see on here is insanely good) won a few contests years ago, but my painting is not super but i can do good table top quick. I think when my old stuff is gone i might reinvest the funds and get armies to paint up and maybe make some funds and be able to do some of the cooler models that i cant afford at the moment.
I did have a batch of 40 orks and 60 gretchen that i sold on ebay few months back same as yours for a lot more than i thought they were worth (people were bidding the figures up quite a bit) so dont assume they are not worth something... course dont assume something that is being asked a lot for is worth a lot as i have seen some figures that are rare remain forever on sale in cyberspace lol... and i tried to match their price originally and droped so far down that i gave up selling those items .
I do have a few favorites that i keep out for shelf duty.

What do I do with old models? Buy 'em! I'm new enough to the hobby that anything I add to my collection is useful, and some of the older stuff, though not quite as realistic looking as more recent stuff, still have a great look.

A buddy and i started playing 2nd ed not too long ago because we love some of the old rules. We both want to keep the feeling of 2nd ed there so we have small armies of nothing but 2nd ed models.

There are a lot of old Tyranid models in my collection. It makes me very sad to see a mini discarded or left sitting. Broken models are patched up with bits from the collection to match as best as possible. After being painted to match they blend in ok. The Chaos Marines I own have a similar thing going on, but I don't plan on painting that army. I juggle bits until they are useable again and put them in the rotation.
An old model may look a little different, but it still fights just like a new model does.

If you really want to, sell the stuff. Tossing it just isn't worth it; there's a demand for almost everything that's ever been associated with GW. I've been hunting down stuff for about a year now for my 2nd edition Ultramarines, and I was scouring eBay, Dakka, and everywhere else in search of old models. I know other folks who are either building retro armies or adding to their old collections who do the same.
I do have a few armies I painted when I was younger that aren't old enough for the Oldhammer crowd but not new or well painted enough to actually be of much use. I occasionally break them out for a special scenario or something, but they don't get much love anymore. I can't bring myself to get rid of them though, since I poured my heart and soul in those old minis and I know I'd miss em.

Keep using them. Even the gorkamorka orks occasionally come out when I'm showing new people the rocks... Er. Rules.
That, and I use my hundreds of monopose plastic gretchin as space fillers for playtesting units or bulking out armies for larger points games.
