Hello,

I have amassed an absurd amount of necrons, 2500pts of pre-heresy death guard, an 1850pt imperial fists force, and a 1250 pt grey knight army. I am getting tired of elite armies, and really liked the aesthetics of the DKoK. What do you all suggest I buy first, with a 350 pound budget?

Thanks
Apower101

First, your budget isn't going to buy you much of an army if you want the real models for all of the infantry. Even a basic infantry squad is ~$100 once you account for the cost of the weapon upgrades, so just buying the minimum HQ squad + 2x grenadier squads is going to eat most of your budget.

That said, the first thing to do is to get IA12 so you can see your army list. The siege list pdf is nice, but unless you're going to massively expand your budget you can't afford it. The IA12 assault brigade list replaces hordes of infantry with "storm troopers" as troops and supports them with respawning platoons, tanks, death riders, etc. So the obvious thing to do there is to get a command squad and two squads of grenadiers, with appropriate weapon upgrades (melta/plasma). Then, with the remaining money, you can start thinking about some of the DKoK-specific toys. Thudd guns are reasonably cheap and powerful, death riders are amazing but cost a lot of money, and you can always just buy some plastic LRBTs if you're short on money.

If, on the other hand, you are willing to consider your initial budget the first 10% of the army and expand it once the first purchases are painted, the siege list fits your idea of a horde. To make it at all plausible you'll need to start it as an allied detachment. Get two command squads (HQ and platoon) and two infantry squads, with appropriate weapons. Then get an earthshaker or medusa battery, and maybe a small squad of death riders if you can afford it. This will give you a fairly good feel for how the army plays, and let you use it right away. Then once you've got more money available repeat the process 1-2 more times so that you have a full army, and start getting the support units like rapiers/tanks/aircraft.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

If you are tired of elite armies then you want infantry squads but this is an expensive route to go.

I would recommend;
*IMPERIAL QUAD LAUNCHER 'THUDD GUN' £22.50
*DEATH KORPS OF KRIEG THUDD GUN CREW £12.50
*DEATH KORPS OF KRIEG COMMAND HQ SQUAD £29.00
*2x DEATH KORPS OF KRIEG COMMAND SQUAD £25.00 [£50.00]
*4x DEATH KORPS OF KRIEG INFANTRY SQUAD £38.00 [£152.00]
*DEATH KORPS OF KRIEG COMMISSAR SET (I would convert one of these to a Yarrick counts as and take the tank one to make a pask punisher w/ MM and lascannon) £26.50
*2x Leman Russ Punsiher/Executioner (Magnetize and buy from a discount provider!) £25.00 [£50.00]

Total: £342.50

That will get you up to ~1000 pts. After that you will need a lot more infantry squads, a few more artillery, an ADL or other anti flyer, and I would recommend IA12 once you get 1500 pts or more for the excellent assault brigade list (forlorn hope allows you to recycle infantry squads when they are wiped out).

You'd have to be Donald Trump to get a blank check from Donald Trump.

Sekhmet - Dynasty 4000pts Greenwing - 2000pts Deathguard - 1500pts Daemons of Nurgle - 1000pts ~320pts

How good are you at modelling?

http://www.heresy-online.net/forums/showthread.php?t=58799

It's tricky to do, but with a bit of extra time put in you get 50 DKoK grenadiers for £50.

A pound a model isn't too bad.

True scale, and harder to convert, but dirt cheap to buy. It may be easier to simply get these guys and play around with them or something. In my opinion they look better sue to scale and so on, but are hard to get table top ready for 40k.

Just throwing another option out there.

Don't get me wrong I love the steel legion but the fluff of the DKOK is one of it's best part (imo).

The Kriegsmen are already to scale, at least compared to GW stuff.

Yes...

They are heroic as well. But the guys in the link are true scale so if you want to mix them with GW stuff, you need to convert a bit. But the above is a very cheap option.

Steel Legion make good conscripts for a DKoK army.

No such thing in any DKoK list.

Also, Steel Legion models have faces, and exposed skin, can't have that.

If you don't mind converting, look into getting the Gorgon transport's Death Korps passenger models. You get a ton of dudes for a good price, but they'll need some work to cut apart. I'd recommend sprinkling them in regular squads to boost numbers.

Do they even sell the gorgon troops anymore? They look like a great option. Also, I have looked into third party options but none look as good as dkok, and when you combine bits to get a relatively good mini it ends up costing approximately as much as the real thing.
