Hey folks.

I recently did another dreadknight. It's lightly converted to be in a standing pose and has had a 54mm historical shield added to it (as a sort of personal protection for the guy inside). There was some FW etched brass used on it to make it more GK- ish. There's the odd bit of detail that still needs to be done, but it's ready for the table top at least! Hope you like it...

Love it very clean work. I only have one nit-pick the smoke stacks / exhausts should be darker or weathered. Though I would not worry about it because it looks great as is.

Very well executed! The blue steel looks really nice on him and the shield looks like it belongs with the model.

It's still a goofy model by design (I still don't know what they were thinking with this thing...), but your paintjob is outstanding.

Hey folks, I also did a few PA GKs to join the ranks: a squad of purifiers and a squad of interceptors.

And yes, those are psilencers on a purifier squad...

love your painting. Absolutely fantastic.

That modification with the sword though... it just looks like it's the first time he ever saw a sword and he has no idea what side is up. "What, like this? I just swing it like a pendulum, then?"

Looks very much like a modification made for the sake of modifying rather than to improve on the model.

Actually, I was just going for a resting pose, not a combat one. Seems that didn't quite come across as such then...

Very nice paintjob.
I saw the pose as resting, so I think you got the point across.

CC:
I'm not a fan of the heavy "pooling" of what looks like blue wash on the model. I also second the weathering needed on the smokestacks.

I was going to comment on the sword as well. I think that if the sword's point had been touching the ground and slighlty to the middle of the the knight that would have looked a better resting pose.

However, that little nit-pick aside, a really excellent paint job. Almost makes me consider getting an airbrush!

You are right, I was aiming to have the sword touch the ground next to the foot when doing the assembly. It was painted in sub-assembly stages though, and when everything was glued together, it turned out that the sword ended up "hovering" like a mm about the edge where it was supposed to land on. I'm hesitant to add any basing balast extra around it (which could fix it I guess), but I'm worried about ruining the paint job on the sword as well if I'm not careful. :s

Third and final dreadknight is finally done. I'll see if I can take some shots of the dynamic trio sometime soon!

This was quite a fun conversion to do, because it was also the first time I attempted scratch building weapons out of plasticard and greenstuf (with the odd bit of brass edging and steel wire tossed in).

It is killing me that none of the purity seals have script! Awesome halberd, though. Seriously good stuff there. Overall, damn good work!

Not sure how you did the blue on the guys - does look like just a wash done a few times heavily. Next time, give spraying down blue ink in thin coats a try. I find it sits better and you have more control because it dries very fast, unlike washes which can pool funny and don't always dry right.

The blue was done with a heavily diluted mix of guilliman blue glaze. The glaze is mixed with 1 part glaze, one part water and one part satin varnish. It does tend to pool significantly because of it's low viscosity.

The glaze is done over a VMA steel layer, which is then rehighlighted with the airbrush with steel. It creates quite a bit of contrast that way between top and bottom. I do have inks as well. I haven't tried them in the airbrush yet however. I could give them a shot, but for consistency's sake I probably will not on this army...

Scripts will only happen as soon as I get my lazy bum to the artstore again to buy a fine tipped pen. I used to have one, but sadly it dried out on me.
