I was reading the End Times: Nagash book recently and realized that it gives a really interesting way to use your wood elf army that with a little imagination could be both fluffy and cool.

The essential parts of this army list would be a haunted forest as one of your forests you bring or create with the acorn in your table side. You then get a bunch of branchwraiths, give them lore of undeath, and get them within 6" of this forest. These branchwraiths will have 3d6 each when channeling which gives a 42% chance to roll a 6...in a 2000 pts list you could fairly easily have an extra ~3 power dice a turn. The biggest advantage though is having 6 Lv1's and 1 Lv4 which allows you to very accurately choose the powers you want on your Lv4 by rolling the Lv1's first and swapping to signature. The signature is an excellent spell for a WE bowline anyways especially with guaranteed venom thickets to put those zombies in. This completely removes one of the problems with a WE army as well because zombie infantry blocks can easily absorb charges to block off the opponent from just running you over. Another advantage is that with the large number of casters and the +1 for casting in a woods your Lv4 can easily 2 dice most of the summoning spells and your branchwraiths can 2-3 dice the signature spell. This lets you build up your lore attribute so you can summon some necromancers or a terrorghiest.

Why would I ever say this could be "fluffy". Well the reason is that I am planning to make lots of dead wood counts as. For zombies I will make simple wooden man shapes rising from the ground and make them look like rotting dead woods. You can do similar things for many of the units (and for fairly cheap). This being the necromantic energies of the end times affecting the forest and causing the vengeful spirit of the woods to retaliate.

Could work, make sure to bring Drycha as well just for fluffs sake! The only problem i would see is the limited range of the Lore of Undeath and the loss of a good shadow caster (which Drycha would alleviate) but i guess the range issue would be mitigated by putting the level 4 in a unit of Sisters of the Thorn (Another channel die).

I would maybe try this sort of thing in a 2.4k game because Wood Elves struggle to have enough chaff at that point level which the summoned units could provide, but at 2.4k you could also fit in another lvl 4 Wizard rolling lore of Shadow which I'd be loath to part with.

I'm not sure if you can choose Haunted Forest.
The rule says
"If the Scenario you are playing has the Haunted Terrain special rule, all the forces on the battlefield are Haunted Forests. Use the rules listed below instead of rolling on the Mysterious Forest table in the Warhammer Rulebook as soon as a unit enters (or deploys in) the forest."
The Ambush from the Worldroots (free woods), says you place a forest, which is not mysterious terrain, you declare it's type.
The Acorns of the Ages say to choose from the types on the Mysterious Forest table. Haunted Forests aren't on the table.
It might be possible with the free worlds, but it isn't with the Acorn.
