So being pretty new to Infinity and wanting to play an army totally unlike the type I play in 40k (orks), I 've come up with this 300 point list. Any critique appreciated.

Orders: 7
Invincible » Lieutenant
Invincible » HMG
Shang Ji » Paramedic (MedKit)
Shang Ji » Combi RifleLight FT
Wu Ming » Boarding Shotgun & Grenades
Hac Tao » Hacker (Hacking Device)
Yaokong (Messenger) »
Total SWC: 2.5 Total Points: 299

Waaazag da Kan't Stoppable (ORKS) ~6,000 points
Orks-in-Progress, Finished Orks.
Terrain I'm making.
The Darion Sector War Campaign.
Into the Jaws of Hell 40k campaign.

I would try to flush out your SWC a bit since the list seems very under gunned.

However the usual caveat applies that if you are brand new to the game, then it is best not to play at 300 points. Start small around 150 points and keep it simple and once your familiar with all the nuances of the game then you can make more informed decisions about what you want to bring to the board.

I've been watching miniwargaming's Learning Infinity Batreps and I feel like I have a pretty good handle on how the game works and the different aspects of the game (hacking, camo, hidden deployment, etc). Is it really necessary to fill out the SWC to be successful? Also, do paramedics count as specialists or is it only hackers, doctors, engineers, lieutenants, and forward observers?

You don't have to fill out SWC, but a lot of players would argue you should. And to answer your question about the paramedic, yes it does, also the Lieutenants does not count as a specialist in the ITS 2014 season. Apparently there were a lot of instances of Achilles and Avatars running amok in the 2013 season.

Also welcome to Infinity

Thanks! I'll try to throw something together on the 150 point scale. I just hate small games.

Lol, MWG is a great place to learn how the rules don't work!

Having gone from Orks to Yu Jing (amongst other armies), I can promise you that nothing in Infinity plays the way Orks do in 40k, so don't worry about that.

As for your list, its... not great man. The good news is that with the way Infinity works, you can run a sub par list and not get immediately trounced by a better one, the way you do in certain other games.

I'd highly suggest starting at 200pts, and playing that at least ten times (using YAMS or ITS not annihilation) before you move up.

In the meantime, if your new to the game, a single combat group 300pt list must have ten models. No exceptions.

10 orders @ 300. The name of the game is order efficiency, Infinity is about using the least amount of orders to achieve your goals for the turn. The less orders in your pool the less you can get done. If the Hac Tao is deployed Hidden, you're looking at 6 orders on the first turn. If you're going second there are good odds you'll be looking at less than 6.

It looks like you're interested in running a HI heavy YJ, I would take a look at the new ZuYong Invincibles. They're budget HI that are slightly less resilient for a significant discount. http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/downloads/army-lists/%5Ben%5DNewProfiles.pdf

Something I recommend to all new players is try to bring an MSV2 or at least an MSV1. You don't absolutely need MSVs to deal with Camo since there are tricks to get around it but since you're still learning it helps to have a way of handling it directly.
