Linley this has been posted before, but it just too lazy to search. So, any ideas for some Chaos scenery? I saw a desecrated statue before, and really liked the idea, but can't find it again.

I'm just basically looking for examples, inspiration and whatever else that helps me decide what I want to build for my table. Thanks in advance,

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Google images is your friend.

Just look and see if there is anything you think is cool. If the images do not sit on sites with a step by step, ask dakka for suggestions of how to recreate the terrain.

NorCal

Putrid pit with dozens of tentacles coming out of it and random spikes poking out of the ground. Maybe a head with 3 or 4 eyes on it....throw a few twigs from the yard in there...

AKA "dammit I have to clean out my bits box because there's too much crap in it"

I am working on a "Demon Door" which is one side of the door covered in blood and runes and the other side has a demon (messily) emerging from it while "part" of the door.

Which Chaos?

Don't do too much 40K specific terrain anymore, but there is a good bit of variety between something like Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch and Slaanesh...and of course undivided, which to me is unimaginative.

Khorne is all about the skulls and other trophies of war. Bodies strung up on pikes, piles of skulls and weapons, blasted and broken buildings.

Nugle is rot and decay. The pools of goo and tentacles, buildings and vehicles which are infected, dead and dying trees...toss in some bloated and infected bodies and what not.

Tzeentch is twisting and magical. Building that are starting to bend and distort, blow up the ground under a building...but have parts of the ruin stay floating in mid air (with cleverly hidden struts to keep the look), crystals or other magical bits sprouting up from the ground.

Slaanesh is excess. Arenas, bright colors, loud speakers (no doubt some cluster of screaming heads on pikes with wires and what not...), something to make you think - they are having too much fun.

Undivided...mostly pointy stars and the Ultramarine symbol with an "X" on it. Maybe some more, more skulls... Mostly just broken stuff. I would say rivers of lava or what not...but that is a bit like home for the Salamanders. Frozen...nope, Space Doggies like that... Mostly just a lot of "X"s and pointy bits.

A year or two ago, I did two rather large Chaos boards. One was for Tzeentch. The ground was wavy (PITA to match the waves across terrain tiles so that it was modular). Several of the buildings were twisted (bit like building one of those "Mystery Spots" in miniature), the center piece was a floating tower thing that was chained down. Different bits of scatter included a fountain that sprung from a mid air vortex and bits of ground which appeared to be imploding on itself.

The other was for Slaanesh - honestly one of the more difficult ones IMO. The design concept I went with was sort of the stereotypical fantasy Arabian city with towers and minarets. It had a section which was intended to represent a slave auction and another which was a bit of a mix of gladiator arena/Madison Square Gardens (if they had those sort of things in 1001 Nights type setting...). There was a big river as well. Everything was painted a bit muted - but then I went over that paint job with black light paints. Scatter was a bit of a pain for that and mostly included the regular buildings but destroyed versions of it. Painting everything under black light was a bit of a challenge. It goes on mostly clear in regular light...but pops neon colors under black light.

The eye of terror

Just on the off-chance it was this one you had seen, or at least something similar, I made one a few years back:

Could really do with re-photographing some of the older bits looking at the album now. There's also an aegis defense line which can happily fill in as scenery and often did before they gave it the rules in 6th, hidden away in my scenery album so I don't spam the thread with images.

As Sean alludes to chaos is really so diverse that the only limit is your imagination, but reference images and ideas certainly help for inspiration.

Nice statue. Take a basic house brick and cut it to a square size so it fits under the statue like a big plinth. House bricks or similar soft stone are easily cut with tap from a chisel or screw driver. Next mark out a chaos cross on each size of the square and then carve it out. It's easier than it sounds. A basic mini metal file will carve out a chaos symbol in less than 5 mins, trust me a house brick is super soft, almost too soft. Then just paint to desired colour, chaos star in silver and rest of brick in black works well
