Going to collect HH Ultramarines army and want them to be one mark of armor. So I am going on it being a thematic force, literally as if they've just got out of the bunkers of Calth ready to fight the Word Bearers. I know they were the most numerous legion but I am not sure if that means mainly MK2 or MK4 armor.

iirc, the traitors arranged it so that their Legions would be almost entirely equipped with mk4, while the loyalists wouldn't.

So the predominant marks for the Ultramarines would most likely be mk2 with mk3 and mk5 as well.

See I thought that too. But a lot of them are pushing for me to collect MK4 since everyone else inc the traitor marines has went for the MK2 and MK3. Plus the MK4 commander really looks very ultramarine.

The books talk a lot about their "Praetor Pattern" armor, but no real idea what that means. People seem to think it's probably a reference to the way they were depicted in the HH card game.

But they've been depicted on the HH covers in a variety of different kinds. I'd guess, given how good the Ultramarines logistics were, that they'd have been pretty well equipped.

But given how large of a legion they were, you could easily just pick your favorite, model wise, and run with that, without worrying too much about not being accurate.

I suspect they would represent the Praetor pattern with a unique helmet. Which would suck as by then I would have a good few marines.

That armor looks like a blend of MK2 and 4. I would say its closer to 4 and 2 looks very archaic and rigid,

As far as I know, Praetor pattern was a mark that the Ultras developed to fill in for mkIV when they were cut off on Calth. It was largely the same, but with those unique (and epic) helmets.

Really, the decision is easy.

Mk 2 and 3 are extremely clunky looking. 4 and 5, on the other hand, actually looks kinda like something you might deisgn if you were in the future (minus all the bizarre exposed cabling). I mean, realistically, only 7 and 8 even look like they'd be functional, but hey. Rule of cool.

Ultramarines were good with logistics. That was one of their defining factors.

I'd go with Mk IV, with some Mk V parts mixed in here and there. And for Praetor pattern helmets, right now I'd suggest using the Emperor's Children Mk IV heads. They look somewhat similar to the art, and blue with gold faceplate they will fit right in.

Here's a good sub for Praetor pattern helmets (on the right):

They're randomly selected, but if you email them they may be willing to give you a full set of the right one. Excellent price and good reviews.
