If you have him in the rear of a big
CCW CSM squad, the enemy will waste ass his bullets just to chew through them.
Yes you do have a point, kharn and a blob of
csm can distract the enemy's fire from other targets. However, the same could be said for pretty much any unit in the
csm Dex.
You have to realize that 20
csm cost 270, or 370 if you want khorne
csm with bolters and banner for furious charge. Then you add kharn on top of that. 430-530 points for 20 3+ saves that move 6+
d6 inches per turn.
Yes they would soak up fire, but in my book that's not a smart use of points. And there are better things to soak up fire. Better, cheaper, faster things.
Also, someone suggested getting a trap-champ to eat challenges...WHY? wounds spill over now and kharn will brutalize nearly anyone not packing a SS (and some who do) in a challenge before the poor bastards get to swing. if anything, you more often than not WANT him in a challenge, where he assures the well-armed dude on the other side is dead, while keeping himself safe in the process from any horde of dice getting lucky on him.
I'm not sure on this, but I'm getting the idea that you don't realize that people outside the challenge can swing into it, provided that there are no other outside enemy models.
You would want a trap-challenge to challenge when
MCs or single model beat sticks get into combat.
The idea behind this is that the trap-challenger and the squad soak up wounds while kharn swings at the target. Situationally you might want kharn in there, but for something that can possibly hurt him, the scapegoat-challenger provides an extra layer of protection for kharn.
