1. Alpha Legion:

2. Blood Angels are Spaniards and other Mediterraneans.

3. Emperors Children are Romans during the later decadent part of their Empire.

4. Dark Angels: based on various Knightly orders and Arthurian legends.

5. Death Guard Terran's are Albanians, Barbarousians are based on cultures of the Eastern Balkans.

6. Raven Guard: Not much on them besides they recruited people from the a dry and dusty part of the world.

7. Night Lords are mutts. Remember half of them are Terran. ZSO SAHAAL, sounds Asian to me and his honor code reflects many of the warrior codes of that region. Nostramans are Slavic and Konrad is an American, Anglo Saxon name and based on a fictional American character. mutts, skeptics to their core and fighting a war that they don't understand, I can't think of a more American story. I hope this doesn't get misinterpreted like the last time I posted something like this, its not meant to be an insult to America.

8. Sons of Horus: Their gang culture, but older gang culture, not cartel hit squads but more like the old Irish gangs of Philly but probably common in other gangs as well.

9. Iron Warriors are based on Ancient Greece before the City States when they were controlled by petty tyrants. Like the Tyrants of ancient Greece they believe that the strong must rule the weak.

10. Imperial Fist are Prussians with their views on war being very similar to Clausewitz

11. Iron Hands are based on tribal cultures where trials of strength and endurance were part of initiation into manhood, the Death Guard share some similarities.

12. Salamanders: same as the Iron Hands but.
13. Space Wolves: it’s pretty obvious isn't it.
14. Ultramarine's are the Greeks in the latter part of Greek civilization, unwilling to change their tactics to deal with new enemies such as Rome.
15. Thousand Sons: Persian Empire, Ahriman was an evil God in the Persian religion.
16. White Scars: Just as obvious as the Space Wolves.

17. Word Bearers are based on several different Middle Eastern tribes.

18. World Eaters are Spartacus's army, a mix of all enslaved by Rome.

Don't we already have a thread on this?
Besides, not all legions are based on a real world culture or nationality. There is nothing Slavic to the Night Lords or Albanian/Bulgarian to the Death Guard for example.

Alpha Legion: Redacted by Inquisitorial Edict
Appended notation: My lord, all the information we have on this Traitor Legion is contradictory and, in some cases, must be absolutely fabricated out of whole cloth. The only things regarding the remains of this Legion that we can say with certainty is that it existed during the Great Crusade, was active during the Horus Heresy, and has reappeared several times in the centuries since that era. Its destruction has been reported several times, only to reappear later, so we cannot assume that any report henceforth of this event is trustworthy or accurate. Awaiting further instructions. -- Heironymus Asceela, Inquisitorial Archivist, Carcosania III, Hali Sub-Sector, Hydraphur Sector, Segmentum Obscurus

FTFY.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
