I was cleaning up and reorganizing earlier today and it struck me that I have a pretty extensive stash of unbuilt models. I've been painting/modeling/collecting for almost three years and this is what I have to show for it so far. These pictures are only what I have still in the boxes, after I went through and consolidated them a little (cutting leftover sprues up to put in my bits box). I also have a shelf full of in progress models in various stages of completion as well as a glass display cabinet for my completed works. I was actually thinking about unloading some of these unbuilt models because I'm pretty sure I will never complete this entire pile as it just keeps growing (I have another two Star Wars models and the NSEA Protector from Galaxy Quest on the way...)! So what does your model stash look like? Do you think you'll ever get everything complete?

That's a big pile o' stuff!
I tend to build anything within a day or so of getting it, and then it either gets painted within a week or left for a year. Case in point, I got an Infinity starter and blister in on Tuesday and had them fineshed and based by yesterday morning. I got some Mantic Enforcers a over a year and aren't even base coated for the most part.
Currently, my only unbuilt stuff is 5 CSM awaiting conversion into Legion of the Damned and a few Inq28 models I'm hoarding parts for.

Yeah, those pictures don't really make it too clear either. There are two stacks of pretty much only GW models behind the one stack of Star Wars models, plus the small stack or Inquisitor models I picked up at my FLGS swap meet.
The funny thing is that I've really slowed down buying stuff over the last year or so.

Save them for a rainy day man. I had a collection not quite as big as that, and as life his kicked me in the man-bits over the last few years, it has kept me in a steady supply of models to sate my painting addiction.

Probably 3000+ unpainted citadel models and 100+ privateer press :X
I am pretty sure that if I quit my day job and painted for the rest of my life I wouldn't catch up lol. I still have 3 boxes of Orks from the 80s (when you got 36 plastics per box), and metal Eldar blisters with squads of 5 price tagged at $10. Boxfuls of metal grey knights and the original harlequins. Heaps of Lord of the Rings and Hobbit miniatures. As I once read, my wallet outperforms my paintbrush.
I think my biggest problem is that I'm afraid that if I don't get enough of whatever model, if I ever want to paint an army featuring that, I won't be able to.

i've been collecting since 1984, when i was 10 years old...
i'm sure you can imagine how massive my collection is after 30 years
there is no way it will ever get painted, since 9 out of 10 of the minis i paint are for other people...
i still find it hard to sell each oop piece, even though i know it will never see my painting table...
it has been almost a year since i started selling off my collection, and it still hurts just as much every time i sell a piece...
ironically enough, once a mini is painted, i've spent so much time fighting to get the paintjob i want, i have no problem letting it go...
nice stash, by the way...
cool to see all those boxes of Star Wars models ...
cheers

My unbuilt stuff is pretty small right now I have a box of plague monks, a box of stormvermin a hellhound(or some imperial guard tank that I got shipped to me by accident) and a few wraithguard (3 models maybe?) And same with 3 models of dire avengers and some sort of ship for firestorm armada...I might play that game one day I swear lol

Blimey. I know I have enough stuff to keep me busy for the next 5 years or so (based on how quickly I paint), but that stash is something else. If I had that much of a backlog I don't think I'd ever get anything done as it would simply be too overwhelming.
You need a rule or something, you can only buy another box once you've cleared 3 (or 4, 5, 6, wherever you set the line)

Hah, it's all in the 'having to much spare time and being slightly hyperactive about new shiny stuff.' I generally find that striking while the iron is hot by building/painting stuff straight away helps me keep motivated as there's still the excitement of it. It's why I've slowly shifted from buying as much of an army as possibly in one go to buying a box or two at a time: painting one tactical squad over a weekend is doable, painting three and a Dread over a week off is a lot more daunting as a prospect, although about the equivalent in hours per unit/mini.
I do have a hoarding problem but it's mostly bits as I don't like the feeling of having models I can't use if it comes to it (although I try to play everything painted). I do tend to keep every spare part whether I user it or not, I'm sure I've still got extras from my first kit somewhere...

My unbuilt and/or unpainted stash? Far larger than I'll likely ever finish, far smaller than some of what I've seen that will be finished (how the "bleep" do you guys do it?).
I'll be damned before I ever try to sell them off, but I would probably un-buy a few, if I could. So I could buy new ones that I'll never get to, that is.

Bah! I've seen bigger Are the Star Wars models for gaming or just for display? I would be hesitant to sell anything. The one thing you can count on is that GW minis bought today will be cheaper than GW minis bought tomorrow.
I have probably about a dozen boxes of unbuilt stuff, but that doesn't tell the whole story. I save space by breaking down sprues into bitz bins, so my actual toll of unbuilt minis is pretty significant. In some ways, that's good because the wife only has a vague idea of what I have, but it's also bad because as I get older, I also have a vague idea of what I have!

Oh, no doubt! I think my stash is pretty modest, especially compared to people that have been involved in the hobby their entire lives.
Are the Star Wars models for gaming or just for display?
Nope, not gaming pieces, just regular scale models. They are made by a Japanese company called Fine Molds and they're pretty damn impressive; probably the most accurate models on the market. Unfortunately, Fine Molds lost their Star Wars license this year (Bandai picked it up though) and as of June they are no longer making them. I've built a handful of them already: a TIE fighter, Darth Vader's TIE/x1, and Luke's X-wing. They're still available for purchase but supplies are running low and prices keep climbing
I would be hesitant to sell anything. The one thing you can count on is that GW minis bought today will be cheaper than GW minis bought tomorrow.
Yeah, that's why I haven't sold any of them yet (and probably won't). Even if I did, I'd just use the money to buy more plastic.

Haha... my wife shakes her head every time she looks at my unbuilt pile; she knows they aren't cheap!

I got those for the ridiculous price of $4 per model at my FLGS swap meet a year or so ago. Those are the first thing I thought about selling because I know I could get a decent price for them... but I like having them in the stash so I don't think they are going anywhere for now.
