Subject: 48 Warp Charges in a CAD + Allies list - what purpose could it serve ?

CAD: Iyanden

hq2: 5 Spiritseers
no force org slot: 10 Warlocks
troops: 2x3 windriders
Allied: Iyanden

no force org slot: 8 Warlocks

48 Warp Charges, isn't that the best so far - but more importantly, is there any use for it ?

You start summoning and watch the warlocks and spiritseers die very quickly.

For summoning Daemons you basically need a (criminal) Farseer.

It's worth fielding just to see the look on your opponent's face.

Allied detachments cannot be the same faction as your primary detachment.

Unless you're playing in a tournament.
But... you can also take allied daemons and 4 Heralds.

Nova
And now that we have Daemons, we can just go for summoning I guess ?
If it goes first, that's a ton of summoning, I just don't think it can handle drop pods as is, needs a bit of trickery to be safe from other cheeses.

That was the impression I got when reading a list of top X at Nova, some of which had Eldar / Eldar.
Anyway, there are tournaments that allow self alliance and daemons are a better fit for this experiment.
Here's the little trick:
1. You may not select more than 2 total Detachments, and must contain a Primary detachment
2. You may not select more than 1 Combined Arms Detachment
3. If you do select a Combined Arms Detachment, is must be your Primary detachment
It's not an allied detachment, just another detachment.
I don't think you were nitpicking on the word allied though, so I guess we both learned something

Its a typo. Matt Schuchman's list is Eldar/Dark Eldar
Also there isn't any detachment other then CAD or Allied that Eldar and Daemon can take so there is still no way to double up on them in the NOVA rule set.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just take an actual army to speak of instead of a factory for one that can have plenty of spanners thrown in its gears if luck doesn't go your way.

Yeah, you can. There were a number of players who took Necron/Necrons, including Alex Bessinger.
Also, any West Coast tourney using the BAO format could self-ally.
I believe both Nova and the BAO did this as a compromise. No double- CAD but yes to self-allies.

Then why doesn't it say it in the NOVA packet?

From http://whiskey40k.blogspot.com/2014/06/gt-level-organized-play-army.html
NOVA and BAO/LVO choose to follow the same conclusion as the above Organizer (though we do not consider GW Organized Events binding precedent, it doesn’t hurt to understand their choices). Further, we decided to correct the unintended consequence of single CAD by allowing all Allied Detachments to be selected from the same Faction as the Primary Detachment.

It does say it,
3.2.1
11. Allied Detachments MAY BE SELECTED from the same Faction as the Primary Detachment
Middle of page 5.
Self ally was legal at NoVa and BAO.

I think it's going to be as well at Adepticon. Looks like the basic formats coming out for tournaments is 1 Primary , 1 Ally or Formation, Self Ally which I guess is sort of fair even though SPACE WOLVES

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated. |

Is the idea of this list to utterly dominate the psychic phase and summon unit after unit of daemons?

Oh as for what you can do with it?
I think that's a total of 33 Psykers and 33 Rolls on Malediction.
So... Possession. You should get at least 4, turn them into Lords of Change, then start the Cycle over again.
