So I got into Deadzone about maybe 3-4 months back, and got into it hot and heavy after realizing it was the terrain-heavy game I've always wanted Warmachine to be and wished it was. From the get-go I wanted to go a different route than I've seen others do with their paint-schemes for terrain, and go a super-rusted jungle-overgrown scifi-ruins look as opposed to the default (but not bad) scifi-city-urban look. I did the whole salt-masking technique using layers of hairspray and sea salt in combination with various cans of spray paint. So, I got all the terrain painted in about 3-4 days of consistent working on it and did it all with spray paint.

I also made it it's own board as well for it, since it's kinda necessary with the look I wanted, in which case I was going to make the standard 8x8 board, but due to materials I ended up making a 10x10, which so far I've uber-preferred gameplay on. It's made on a cedar-wood (very light) frame with a foamcore board top, coated in sand, painted, and flocked using 3 different types of static grasses. The lines for the grid was kinda a hard thing to tackle, but I'm happy with the result. The grid is made from dark-green thread actually. I marked around the edges of the board, put a drop of super glue and stretched the thread across, then "painted" the thread down with elmer's glue to the board, and another drop of super glue on each intersection of "lines".

All of my buildings are all assembled using just the connectors, none of my buildings are glued together, but they've stayed together for months on end now with lots of transportation to my local gaming store. To make all this stuff here, it's all the terrain that comes in the Two-Player Starter Box, the Urban Sector, Landing Pad set, and if it counts the free Accessory Sprue from Mantic, though I do feel that I am in desperate need of the Ruins set for my theme. There's also a few random things I've done here as well, like the chain-link fences, which are just wire mesh wired to wall pieces through connector holes and wired to posts made from the sprues all the terrain came on.

All the jungle-plants I've put together are all various fake plastic plants I've acquired from Goodwill and superglued to metal washers as heavy bases. So far none of them, even the taller ones, have gotten knocked over during play. We've been treating cubes with plantlife in them to be cover cubes.

And here's a few pics of some of the miniatures I've painted for Deadzone, with my terrain's theme in mind when it comes to colors and basing. So far I've got all the Enforcers and Plague from the faction starters, the Rebs starter, the Strider Kit (which I've magnetized to be interchangable between the variations), and 8 of the Mercenaries. And as of last night and finishing up Wraith and the Rebs pilot for their Strider I've got them all painted now.

The Enforcer's Strider here was kinda an experiment for me, following a tutorial online regarding painting glass/windows and painting theoretical reflections of what may be reflected from the vehicle's surroundings. I'm happy with how it turned out, and everyone seems to like it so far.

Anyways, thanks for checking my thread out, hope you guys like

Hmm... I've spent about 2 hours now copying links, failing at having them appear in my post, uploading them to the site here, re-copying new links with the IMG bracket things, failing some more, and re-tying again without them at the end, reading two different tutorials for the site regarding this, and am still clueless as to what I've done wrong.... What am I doing wrong with my image links above? :/

In the Gallery image page, there is a little box that says "Forums" above it... copy what's in that box into your post box.

So for those wondering, here are the OP's images (they're awesome looking btw)

Ahh, my bad, had I only tinkered with it just a tad bit longer, I was under the assumption you had to put the Image bracket things from the options above the text box in the forum posts at the front and back of those links, and then I had realized they ended with something similar as is, so I got rid of the back brackets. If only I'd tried once more and knocked off the front ones I wouldn't have made a fool of myself, lol XD.

But thank you, for your help and the compliment.

Welcome aboard the Starship Dakka!

Very impressive board and paintwork on the minis, not a style of terrain I've seen before for DZ but it really works! Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

That's a great take on the deadzone scenery. You should send your stuff to Mantic, they often put good looking scenery like that up on their blog.

Thanks everyone! And I posted these same pics in a Deadzone Fan group on Facebook and was contacted by Mantic's Community Manager and was requested to write an article for Mantic's blog explaining my motivation for my take on the terrain, some brief descriptions as to how I went about it, and a few more pics of the terrain. Article's submitted and according to them my article should appear on their blog I believe either this Saturday or the following one. Definitely honored that I caught Mantic themselves' interest and for the rare opportunity!

On another note, got another game today in of me trying Rebs some more against Enforcers with yet another loss for me, despite my Terraton annihilating two Assault Enforcers and the Peacekeeper Captain and ready for the Enforcer with Missile Launcher, lol.

Fantastic.

Looks like it would be a blast to play on, plenty of cover.

I can see Plague partying on that board like it was 2099.

How many terrain boxes total did that take to make? Also nice work on the actual board itself :O

Read the original post, chief, the author lists which boxes were used. I won't quote the part here in order to save space

Great terrain by the way, and very nicely painted figures! Gives me more motivation about getting round to painingt my old cities of death stuff.

I saw this first in the Ironwatch magazine thing, truly fantastic work all around. This will be a great inspiration for my own desert outpost themed board whenever that eventually happens.

Really nice stuff!
