For 100 points, you get a 3+ cover save, Skyfire, Interceptor, and its Twin Linked. Is there something I'm missing, or is the Aegis line really just that great? Also, out of curiosity, when firing at units from Reserve, is it still full BS against say Deepstrikers and Outflankers, or only Flyers?

4+ cover save. 2+ if you go to ground.
And Interceptor no longer lets a Skyfire unit shoot at a ground target with full BS. So you'll only get full BS against Flyers, Skimmers, and Jet Bikes. Everything else will be snap-shots, no matter if you are intercepting or not.

Actually, Jetbikes aren't one of the things you can fire normally at (it's flyers, FMC's and Skimmers).
It's weird, as they aren't in the list for Strafing Run either.

7th Edition changed the Interceptor rule (removed the part of the rule that made Skyfire weapons shoot ground targets at full BS rather than snapshots).

So now it's snapping at ground targets?!
Back on the shelf that goes then!!
EDIT - Actually I'll still use one with Tau as the marker lights and alleviate the issue

Skimmers, fliers and flying monsters are pretty common threats in many lists. And it's still 4+ cover that's always available on any board. The gun not being an incredible value anymore doesn't turn something from auto include to utter trash.
...7th editions focus on movement and capturing objectives did.

Just running the line has its uses as well, depending on your army (synergizes well with shroud/stealth units), as well as adding a "last word" on terrain set up. The gun options are devalued now with the change to interceptor, but the comms relay is cheap way to tweak a list dependent on reserves.

And there are a lot of weapons out there that ignore cover. With the nerf to skyfire, the aegis lost its usefulness.

I take it as a Comm Relay mostly but I've often wondered about worth while additions to it.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated. |

Don't confuse ADL with the Quad Gun that was nerfed. The Qaud gun is not a required upgrade of the ADL. The ADL is well worth it either by itself or with a Comms Relay. Use it to buff your backfield unit and/or buff your reserve rolls.

ADL is a must have for any army that plants to have at least 25% of its forces form a static gunline. And comms relay is worth its weight in gold if you have more than 2 units in reserve because re-rolling botched rolls often means the difference between victory and defeat.
Also remember with how multi-storied ruins took a bashing in 7th ed, placing your guys behind an ADL is the safer bet

Don't forget that you can also take an ammunition dump. This allows you to reroll all 1s, which gives you more hits in any case and is especially useful if you have some plasma guns.
