I've been perusing through the Nagash book once more, and I've taken a shine to Vlad von Carstein's new Mortarch of Shadow profile. He's lost some nice stuff, but gained some nicer stuff.
Key to this, is Mortarch of Shadow special rule, which means enemy units are at -1 to hit against Vlad and his unit. In addition, enemy units within 12" are at -1 Leadership, so this is like an improved version of Aura of Dark Majesty, right? Even better, since it's not Aura of Dark Majesty, there's no reason it can't stack with Aura of Dark Majesty.
I'm thinking, plop him in a nice unit (Grave Guard, as usual, being the best candidates), alongside another hero level Vampire with Aura of Dark Majesty, Fear Incarnate and BSB - The Screaming Banner.
Suddenly, enemy is taking fear test at -2 Leadership, using the highest result from 3 dice, and having to reroll it if successful. Then, when they inevitably fail (Unless they're spoiling all the fun by being immune to fear), they're reduced to WS 1, which would normally need 5+ to hit even against clumsy Grave Guard, but now with Mortarch of Shadow's -1 to hit, will be requiring 6+ to hit! When it's our slowbro Grave Guard's turn to attack, we'll be hitting on 2+ with Banner of Barrows following up with some lovely Killing Blows! That's not even looking at all the pain Vlad and his Vampire hussy are going to dish out.
What are your thoughts? Is this a valid unit, or am I missing something?
