So, as the title says, what is the best way to get paint off of a minature? I have some turpentine and I'm wondering if It'll melt models, including a finecast/metal minatures.

Answers much appriciated.

Short answer: turp will destroy anything non-metal.
The alternatives (that I can remember quickly) are Simple Green, Dettol, Fairy Power Spray, Isopropanol, Brake Fluid.

I vote isopropyl alcohol, my paint stripper of choice, is fine with everything except finecast (havent tried a forgeworld piece in it yet). The stuff gets off those layers of primer that the other strippers usualy dont.

I use half denatured alcohol and half 70% Isopropyl alcohol. Combined with a fine brass wire brush, everything comes off. And yes, alcohol turns the Forgeworld resin to rubber just like the Finecast. For resin I use Pinesol. If you do soak resin in alcohol, you can restore it by soaking it in water overnight. I've used this to repose a coupe of resin models.

The other thing that the alcohol is good for is removing Green Stuff. Turns it to rubber like the resin. So it's easy to peel off. I was even able to save some GS sculpted detail and reuse it on another mini.

Last time I got some, it was from here;

http://www.southstarbeauty.co.uk/1-x-5-litre-ipa-isopropanol-isopropyl-alcohol-999-pure-p-1035.html

I got a 5L drum of it, still a L or 2 left in it, I use an ice-cream tub full of it for stripping tanks and larger models. Theres a bunch of Ravenwing bikers and a landspeeder in it right now actually.

Get some heavy duty rubber gloves for use when scrubbing the models the stuff drys your skin out, and the paint bits dissolved in it stain your skin also.
Plus well ventilated areas for working in, the fumes evaporating off your pot full can get quite strong too. Atleast open the windows if not go outside.
