Just bout cut the tip of my index finger off. I was cutting tape and not really paying attention and it went across the tip of my finger like butter. So, bandaging it, whats your worst 40k related wound?

I sliced my finger pretty badly assembling Space Hulk the other day, having just switched to a new knife blade and applying too much pressure. The hazards of getting used to blunt knives, I guess!

Several minor cuts are all I've gotten.
Know someone who glued his fingers together though, the aftermath was not a pretty sight. (the skin tore up when they separated them)

Tell him to try fingernail polish next time. It won't completely take it off, but should remove it enough to not cause this to happen. Warning: if he has any existing cuts/open wounds, it will hurt like hell!

when i saw this, was thinking it was about modeling wound counters onto models. lol
The worst I've had are deep gashes. some almost to the bone. Although, I did have a goodscare when I dropped a running dremil onto my leg once, luckily it got caught in my shorts instead of me.
Then was tempted to share a picture of someone's hand that got caught in a paper shredder but decided against it lol.

Fingernail Polish remover. Just to clarify. :-)
I glue my fingers together all the time. Last time I didn't have any acetone available so I used an exacto to slice the glue. That was ... interesting.

40K-wise, the worst I've done is bury a drill bit tip-to-pin-vice into my thumb three times in the two weeks (much more careful drilling heads now).
General modeling, I'm surprised I don't have any scars to show from all the times I've slashed myself with a hobby knife - been lucky enough they all landed in folds of skin - but over the years I've probably donated my full body content of blood to the Modeling Gods.

All these people ripping skin cuz of glue must have fairly weak skin. I glue my fingers together all the time, doesn't even hurt. Even leaving it for a moment to let the sweat and moisture on your skin soften it can make it easy.

I have numerous small scars from slicing my fingers with a knife. Of course they are all intermingled with scars caused by my cats that they're not very noticeable.
|
Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I actually have a permanent scar from playing a game. I had stretched out the metal measuring tape 48" to see if I was in range with my tank, and the full length of it retracted very suddenly while my finger was pressed along the edge of the tape. There wasn't a ton of blood, but it went pretty deep, and 4 years later I still have the scar. I'm the reason my game store keeps band-aids behind the counter now.

Agree. Just gently cut the glue and maybe a thin layer of skin with a sharp knife, then have all the fun of biting the superglue off your fingers for the next hour or 2

Personally for me my Worst was when I Dropped an old metal Great unclean one, (solid metal) with the huge metal sword, hit my foot sword first, and pierced through the webbing of my toe. no bones were hit, but that model then went through the drywall during the screaming fit I had. that Metal baseball Flew.
Worst I have found on Dakka
I was trimming flash off some resin bits for my GK conversion one night after the wife went to bed (I worked nights @ the time). It was rather late & I was getting sleepy. I was in my boxers & things were.. how should I put it.. 'hanging loose'. I use a Testors X-acto knife, the handle is all metal & it has a bit of weight to it. Brand new blade too.
I finished the last piece & the blade was angled down & the knife slipped out of my hand - again, point down, sharp side away from me - and buried itself into my scrotum between the boys.. I screamed & jerked causing the handle to fall forward, creating an incision about a 1/2" deep & 1" long as it fell forward.
Worst part was the local anesthetic they had to administer to the area for the 4 stitches. Dr. said I was lucky I didn't sever any of the working parts & give myself a home vasectomy.
I don't model w/o pants anymore.

i have a bunch of scars in my fingertips from the blade, but my worst one was from the clippers...
the clippers slipped off the mini, and just as my brain said, "Don't squeeze!", i squeezed...
the squelch of cutting meat was horrific...
i dropped the clippers, squeezed my finger and headed for the bathroom...
the spray of blood on white tile when i let go was quite impressive...
wrapped it in a paper towel, and sat back down...
there was not much pain, but i got a bit queezy when thinking of the sound those clippers made cutting into my finger!!!
the pin-vice has got me once or twice, and the file, too, but the strangest on was getting stabbed by a fairly blunt sculpting tool...
that one left the best scar...
the amount of times i have stood up with an exacto in my lap is ridiculous...
luckily, it has never hit my foot...
toy soldiers is dangerous business ...
cheers

Stabbing myself in the thigh with a #1 x-acto handle and #11 blade.
It rolled off my desk and thunked into my thigh. Through my jeans. Missed the femoral artery (or I wouldn't still be here).
The worst other one was same handle and blade combo, rolling off the desk and thunking into the top of my foot, about an inch in.
Neither required stitches or shots. I'm just lucky like that - then again, I tend to have allergic reactions to tetanus injections these days (swelling like a balloon) so not having a shot was a good thing.

I've only done the usual slices in my thumb that I've superglued shut, but my uncle does model railway stuff, and he dropped his scalpel on his leg once and had to be rushed to hospital, he was centimetres from the femoral artery from what I remember. He was in his loft at the time and so had to climb down the ladder with his leg bleeding all over the shop.

I have only taken minor punctures/cuts from modelling knives in general.
I would recommend that folks change their blades often to reduce the risk of self injury. Also mini modelling files are a godsend for removing flash lines. You typically can pick up a set of minifiles for $10-20.
No sense taking time out of modelling for practicing your first aid skills on yourself, if you don't have to.
