Ok... I love Orks. I'm still buying. Still painting. Been to tourneys with them. 2 majors. I have >8000 points. 100% themed. 100% painted. I know what I'm doing with them. I'm not a strategic genius, but I'm no slouch. I am frakking sick of losing with this bullshim codex in competitive play. SICK!
Make a list. Any ork build. Battleforge. 1850. Play it 3 times in a competitive meta. I'll bet you lose at LEAST 2 of 3 games.

Is that a result of the Ork codex being woefully underpowered or other Codex's being overpowered? I do have a 1850, it's in the Army Lists section and uses Blitz Brigade formation.

We've been having something like this winning at our store lately, beating out some super strong lists, forgive some of my vagueness, I am not terribly familiar with orks:
Horde Detachment:
Big Mek, KFF
ork psyker
ork psyker
2x10 gretchin
2x traktor gunz, a couple of ammo runts
2x mek gunz (the high str ap1 single shot gun)
3x mek gunz, same as above
Bully Boyz Formation:
5x MANz, trukk
5x MANz, trukk
5x MANz, trukk
5x MANz, trukk
5x MANz, trukk
All at 1750
While there is so little ObSec, the MANz will just eat you if you're nera them on an objective, or even just near them. It's quite brutal and we've been having some troubles taking it down. He' undefeated at the tourney for 8 game snow, winning first place twice in a row. Automatically Appended Next Post: I should clarify, it is quite a competitive meta, including lists like:
grav bike spam with tau formation
drop pod spam (the guy that took 2nd at BAO)
Space wolf flying circus with the big new flyers and a some TWC
triple wraithknight and serpent spam
So yeah, that list can definitely work, and you have 100 pts to spare!

And mek gunz at 18pts for bs3 st8 shots with 4 t7 wounds. Or lobbas. 5 lobbas or kannons for 90pts is a steal, so is the 15pts for 5 rerolls to hit. MUCH more points effective then any other armies heavy weapins squads!
Warbuggies are another good one for their points. Even at av10, 25pts for a tl rl on a fast platform is insanely good, especially in units of 5.
Grot tanks with grotzookas are also fantastic - 40pts each for 2 st6 blasts each and the kommander is +25pts for an extra 2 blasts and rerolls on the move roll.
Gretchin are fantasticly cheap for an OS unit.
Warbikes led by a warboss also pull their weight - in both shooting and assault.
And then there is the stompa.
You are most certainly not limited to only 3 points effective units.

@pleasant. Your list is illegal I think.
@poly. Grots run and won't regroup far too easy. They're a great unit until they have to do anything but sit there. Lobbas don't have the punch (or accuracy) needed. And tints added wont help because their added "per gun and you always shoot the closed gun first. This means they have to shuffle (move) to utilize other ammo runts and would have to Snapshoot which they cannot. Stompa is 770 and frequently not allowed. Plus almost every other super heavy at the same point level makes it mincemeat (I have 2 stompas). Automatically Appended Next Post: @pleasant: also has your Ork guy placed with Orks at a major? By placed I mean top 20.

1st gun hits. Use ammo runt on second gun. 1st gun misses, use ammo runt on first gun. No need to rotate at all. Plus all gins of the same type shoot at the same time anyway in the games rules. Say you get 3 misses, use 3 runts. Even without runts 20 t7 wounds and 5 st8 shots is excelpent for 90pts. A SM dev squad with mls costs 130pts, is 5 t4 wounds and one shot less. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also if an opponent is forced to invest into shooting a 30pt unit - its no big loss if the unit then runs off. Automatically Appended Next Post: I do agree that the stompa is probably ~150pts too expensive compared to other LoW.

As for top 20, not yet. He just started running this list 2 months ago, and we haven't had anything super huge on the west coast yet for him to go to. I assume he'll be going to LVO, but really top20-ing something like that comes down a lot to skill AND list building, so it might be a phenomenal list, but he might suck and not make it. That's not a good measure to work with. See my exprience with O'vessa Star
But yeah, def let me know if it's illegal, like I said, not great with orks and definitely not my list.

@midnight: you're cute. I'm stoked you're stoked. Try again.
@poly: re-read artillery rules brother. First gun shoots and uses his ammo runt. Next turn, first gun rolls a scatter(arrow) and a 7. No re-rolls. Second gun has the runt. That means all 5 shots miss.
@ all you BOYZ: show me your list that wins and I'll mail you one of my 2 painted stompas. Here's what you get:

The only advantage I have as an Ork player is that not allot of people I play with are used to playing orks. The Orks army I feel is an unforgiving army. If you make a bad choice you can lose big i.e Riptide droping s9 ap2 large blast on your expensive nob squad. All your rolls "have to be extremly good" BS2 and armour 4+, sure you got 2+ on MegaNobz but aboslutly no 5++ for cyborg armor. I did not see this nurf coming, same points you use to pay for an involve only gets you FNP(6+) sooooo sad. Automatically Appended Next Post: BTW if your handing out stompas Ill take one :-)

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

4 Grot Tankers: grotzooka; Kommander (grotzooka) 205
4 Grot Tankers: grotzooka; Kommander (grotzooka) 205
1,849 points
This list has it all:
24 mobile rokkits to deal with vehicle spam. 20 small s6 ap5 blast templates and 3d6" radius s7 ap3 anti infantry bellygun. Inside the killbursta sits the big Mek, 10 Gretchen, and the spare Mek. That's a 5++ and three repairs per turn for that monster.
Knights will die in one turn from the tankbustas, as will any other super heavy in the game (13 melta bombs with tank busta? Pop). They are in the battle wagon.
The ork horde plays goalie, tiring up any nutty unit that squeezes through. That won't be common though given the amount of infantry crush templates on the table.
Traktor cannons give air defense. All those rokkits could be turned to the sky in a pinch.
Only weakness is necron air force. If you were super worried, drop buggie unit and take more traitor kannons.

One thing from our local games: we have an Orc player who is extremely skilled in using our terrain placement rules to his advantage. He somehow manages to forces you to split your fire while having things out of sight so even with shooty armies things still arrive in numbers big enough to assault the gak out of you. It's by no means broken, but he's faring pretty well.

That list was much friendly than the one I posted! I was playing a friendly game with a buddy who doesn't really know how to run super tight tournament lists.
Mega nobz like the one I ran isn't a bad idea either, but it isn't as tight as an overwhelming shooting list, which is what you need to deal with the big boys in the world of tournaments.
The Kill Bursta does well in a tournament meta I think because it can overcome invisibility. You can target something near the units even if you aren't allowed to target them specifically (though I think the kill bursta isn't technically a template so can target what it wants). The thing will annihilate some armies before they even get a chance to go. With S7 ordinance, it can even stun and shake many vehicles that see play. Wave serpents, with AV12 on the front, are fairly likely to get glanced or penetrated.
The big mek KFF and repair models are needed though since it will be the center of attention. You also need mega nobz or just shooting to complement it since the blast radius is so big it will swallow your own units if they are nearby.

For the record, i would say the ork codex isnt underpowered its eldar/tau/vanilla marines that are op. I face any race except eldar/tau and i can win if i know what im doing (daemons can be a pain in the ass though with the whole army fear check bullcrap). Eldar i can beat unless they do the waveserpent spam since that literally counters my entire codex...and thats STILL more common than it should be. Tau....truthfully i havent even faced Tau with my orks but i dont need to since i own both. My casual non-super-competitive-cheesy-strong Tau list i usually bring at 2k points wrecks anything i can think of bringing for orks. Even wagon spam. Thats just bad match mechanics, as that list usually has a tough time against most races..but its fun so i keep bringing it. Probably shouldnt have mentioned vanilla marines now that i think about it, as the only sm player in my flgs is some crazy tactical-genius nut with infantry numbers. That guy...he takes any army, builds a list with max troops 9/10 of the time, and wins ~80% of the time lol

Yeh, the problem isn't Orks. The problem is the prevalence of Ignore Cover that popped up during Sixth Edition. Hopefully Eldar and Tau will be redone soon and we don't have to deal with that sort of nonsense again. Automatically Appended Next Post: Vineheart01 wrote:
