I guess there's been a few of these lately, and here is mine.

I've been thinking about maybe trying out a small fantasy army lately. Back when I first got interested in Warhammer, I actually preferred the fantasy setting a bit, but everyone I knew who played played 40k. So that was that. Now though, things have changed.

So I'm trying to decide who I would want to play as. Actually power of the army doesn't matter too much to me; I don't mind losing, and I'm not a tournament player. Painting and building are my favorite parts of the hobby. Fluff is only a little important. Mainly, I want an army that is

1. Non-human
2. Not straight up evil
3. Neat to paint and look at.

Any suggestions?

Ogres or Tomb Kings??

I don't really like the design of the Tomb Kings that much, and it would probably be a pain to paint all those skeletons. Ogres might be fun...

What do you think either one has to offer?

Skelingtons are mostly white - so numbers are very much counter balanced by simplicity of scheme (plus you get a load of fun new models coming out for you)

As a third choice - lizardmen maybe? Dinosaurs!!!!

Was going to suggest Lizardmen as well. Have a look at a model range. Some really great modelling opportunities and a solid army overall.

And yeh, Disosaurs!

I would suggest Lizardmen as they play in all phases unlike some other armies.

vampire counts! They aren't evil just misunderstood . But what about Orcs and Goblins?

Have to argue against VC. The problem is we ignore so many core mechanics of the game between being immune to psych & unstable with no shooting (well, now we do with UL).

VC is not a great starter army unless you are SURE you want to play undead as I did, however it makes transitioning to any other army harder.

Its definitely not a easy starter army and it doesnt perform super well at lower points since most of their awesome units are in characters rares and specials. But O and G were my second army choice as the allure of vampires leading the undead legions was too cool to pass up. Technically we do have shooting with TG and banshees/ ME, but I wouldnt suggest it unless you are sure about wanting to play them.

I was going to suggest VC at first since they look awesome and are really diverse in terms of models and visuals but I guess they are slightly on the human side?

Lizardmen also gets a vote from me, all those colouful dinosaurs look sweet, plus they are far from evil; not in their eyes anyway.

Skaven....non human. Not evil they are just a bunch of backstabbing tricksters. Lots of cool models too.

Lizardmen would be cool too. Bit the easiest to paint tho but they have very nice models in my opinion.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! Lizards seem to be the top choice. And looking at them, I think they are. What I like is that there's a really broad range of ways to paint them. They can be colorful. I like colorful.

I had thought about orcs and goblins, but I decided that I want something a little different from the typical fantasy fare. Vampire Counts have some neat looking bigger things, but they also seem to be still pretty skellington and zombie based. So it's lizards for me!

Lizards are a great starter. Theyde tough and cold blooded makes you deal with psychology without being terribly vulnerable to it.

Watch out for the purple fun oike zpells (I test or die)
