So I'm going to a tournament soon that allows unbound armies and is based around maelstrom missions. I feel that this should allow me to bring a completely mental terrifying list, but I have yet to think of anything that can actually wreck face in this environment more than a normal, optimised tournament list.

This has got me thinking:

Is Unbound REALLY as broken as everyone says? Is it actually something that we need to "protect" tournaments from?

I think I'm just going to use the opportunity to bring all my favourite units and have some fun...

I have seen a riptide and markerlight unbound army at 2000 pts wrecks face i think unbound lets people abouse the game big time

It is as broken as your opponents and meta make it.

For example, in my meta and stores I play at, there are not of crazy toothy players with a focus on making the nastiest list possible, so if someone asked to play unbound I'd have little problem with it. That said, I do recognize the potential for really insane lists cropping up, and that it can push things to unfun limits for other players.

I don't think it is a matter of trying to label Unbound with one "broken" or "not broken" brush because it lacks context.

We play a fair amount of unbound at our store. Tyranid all FMC lists with a Malanthrope to group around on turn 1 are probably the most "broken" thing I've seen -- and I've consistently, if very narrowly, beaten that list on objectives -- because it needs to table you to win anything other than Purge. It's also terrible at Maelstrom, although Maelstrom is SO random that I don't think it's a good indicator of list strength.

For unbound Maelstrom, I would want hard to kill mobility. Nurgle Demon Princes seem ideal, but I'm sure there are better things. Bike lists would be strong as well I would think. Make sure you have at least one psycher so that if you draw that card, you don't just autolose a point.

For the greater glory of the Zoat Empire!
