Hi guys,

I'm playing since a long time, but I never could get myself to buy Forgeworld models, even though I like many of them. However, I finally saved some money for this and wanted to get my first FW model. But... when I checked their website I was a bit confused. The starting point and where to get the rules is pretty unclear to me. Of course there are the models, let's take the Fire Raptor which I wanted to add to my CSM army. Now there seem to be quite some rulebooks from FW, very expensive (surprise) and they are only numbered. I am not sure which of those contains the info I need to play a Fire Raptor.

I mean with normal 40k it is clear, I buy the Codex and have the rules for the models of that army. With FW I am not clear. There are PDFs with "experimental rules" for the Fire Raptor.

And I don't even want to speak of getting more models, I would want some things for my Eldar as well, but it's again not clear where to get the rules and so on.

Could someone help me who already knows about FW stuff?

Thanks a big lot!

For CSM, you can use the experimental rules:

The Imperial Armour 13 will bring CSM/evil AM stuff and I bet the CSM Fire Raptor will be there with its final rules. It's coming out this month!

The other books with Chaos stuff are the IA: Apocalypse (not the GW one) and IA: Aeronautica. Anything older than these are probably covered in the newest books (and IA 13 will probably overrule some units in the mentioned books) or went OOP (I know kroot stuff in the IA3 is gone from FW site for this reason)

Okay, that gives me some idea for the Fire Raptor, but not for a general picture of FW stuff.

Which IA issues should I buy? How can I know before buying which ones I need and which ones I don't need? How do I know which ones are outdated?

Probably best to know which model you're looking for an then Google "most recent rules".

As I've said, wait for the Imperial Armour 13. It will bring lots of Chaos stuff. aside that, Imperial Armour: Apocalypse (there's an old version with the same name, take care). The others are pretty useless to Chaos. till, I'd wait for the IA 13.

Also forgeworld has a rather good customer service and will answer emails such as "what books include units X,Y,Z curretn rules"

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Thanks, I guess I will try emailing their customer service. With GW shops I am just used to that they have no real idea of finer details of rules and what might be outdated.

On a related note, I recently built a Storm Eagle for my CSM force and I can't explain how much of a nightmare it was. Make sure you know what you're getting yourself in to, I recommend you look up a building guide while you put it together, there's a few useful ones on dakka.

Make sure you're prepared to bend the fuselage back to a straight shape, mine arrived in right angles.

This isn't FW hate, I love every kit I've ever bought from them, just be prepared.

Good luck with your fire raptor!

Here's where you start:

www.ebay.com

You can get them usually 25-30% off list price.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

And they're almost guaranteed to be recasts out of Russia, China, or the Ukraine for that price.

Resin takes a little more love than plastic, and should be washed off before assembly. Also, if you do get a miscast or flawed piece from them, ring up customer service and they'll get you a replacement in no time. What are you getting? Imperial Armour 13 comes out really soon, and that's full of Chaosy goodness if that's what you're looking for.

Yeah, with such expensive models I want to pay for the customer support. And I really do not want to risk to get recasts.

This list has always helped me find my way. (Though as was mentioned the Chaos units will most likely be updated in the new book)
