Is it possible to hit Grey Knights with Markerlights? I was wondering, because a friend of mine said otherwise.

Ask your friend to show you a rule saying GK are immune to Markerlights.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Why wouldn't you be able to?

Your friend is an arse if he claims otherwise.

If your friend makes such a claim ask him to show you the rule. It's not in the Marker Light rule so he has to have something in his codex that mentions this. If he can't find the rule (which he won't cause it doesn't exist) then he can't use it.

He may be confusing the rules of the plasma siphon.

Do the Gray Knights still have access to that piece of wargear?

I did a quick flick through the digital version of the Codex and did not locate the war-gear in question, but it isn't a Codex I use so I could be overlooking something. If the piece of wargear does exist I find it very unlikely that it has been updated to include what many consider to be a very broken Frequently Asked Question. After all, it was this piece of war-gear that many pointed to when they tried to make the argument that 'fluffy' section's of the book can be applied to Rules. For those who did not know, in 6th Edition the Frequently Asked Question for this piece of war-gear stated that it affects that uses the word plasma in it's description section, and not just Weapons located in the Plasma Weapons section of the book.

Without that most hated of FAQs, it only affects tau plasma rifles.

Having trouble locating the Rule, and I don't have time before work to sit down and read an entire Codex, so can you please post the name of it at the very least so I can do a Ctrl-f when I get home?

The Ulumeathi Plasma Syphon makes all plasma weapons within 12" BS1. Not sure about a page.

Having difficult finding it in the 7th Edition Codex still.

Might not be in it, I haven't played any 7th edition at all. I'd be very happy if they removed it.

But yeah, either he made a big mixup. Or he is just being an ass. Probably the second one.

That was an inquisition item and all the inquisition stuff was removed from Grey Knights. It's not there anymore. Even if it was, it didn't effect markerlights.

Runnin up on ya.

Outside of LoS there isn't anything that I'm aware of that would prevent you from targeting any of his units and having at least a chance of hitting them (albeit often on a 6 in the case of invisibility).

If he's found something in the new codex that makes GKs immune to MLs, as a GK player I want to know about it because I've read the new codex front to back and don't see anything.

More likely he's yanking your chain, misunderstood something or is outright trying to cheat.

and even that is radically different than 'not being able to hit'.

Or maybe his GKs are quite unreMARKable, so pathies would have problems noticing them.

It's because greigh nites are so shiny that the marker light bounces off onto another target. They're like big silver mirrors.

I talked to my friend today, and he still claims the Grey Knights Disrupted certain things (like markerlights) where the unit/model are immune to being targeted. He said his phone was dead, so he couldn't back what he was saying.

If he can't show you (whether it be they forget their codex or their phone died), he can't prove it, thus can't abide by it. Either you guys roll off for it or he can't use that rule, it's up to him (and you). Next time have him be ready to show you the rule that he's talking about (it does't exist), and if he can't, coincidences or not, he shouldn't be using that rule. If he doesn't like that then obviously he's trying to play you.

Sportsmanly etiquette would dictate that if you're trying to prove a rule exists, you need evidence of that. You can't just say "well you're stuff doesn't work and I don't have to prove otherwise."

Then your friend is an outright cheat. There is literally nothing that even remotely says what he is claiming in the Grey Knight Codex.

That is a great rule! Please ask him the name of the Rule at least. (Hope the sarcasm was not lost)

Seriously though, when facing your opponent again, you must be able to read the rules he says to you yourself, and if you cannot read the Rule, it does not exists and you play only by the ones you know and can read out

Ask him to bring the codex or at least the page saying that.

My friend showed me the rule in the Grey Knights Codex, it's called warplock. Turns out the rule keeps a player from deep-striking near their units in a 12" radius (if he declares he's using it). He got confused with the flavor text and thought marker beacons were markerlights.

My friend commonly mistakes lore for rules as well. He thought commanders couldn't leave bodyguard units because the fluff said they never left his side!

Totally understandable for him to make that mistake!

Agreed, understandable and annoyingly so.

Game Workshop's style of Rule Writing has some flair, and one of them is the inclusion of 'fluff' to better explain what the Rule is meant to represent. This normally wouldn't be a problem for many Rule Systems as they would have a section detailing how to determine what is Fluff and what is Rule, but Game Workshop wanted to be a little special by mixing the two in the past. So, more so for older players, there is always that uneasiness when we look over italic section of a Rule because it might contain Rules or instructions that can interact with Rules.

Oh, the non-italic section is just as bad... Game Workshop has been known to put sandwich a little Fluff between two lines of Rule....

Warp Quake is only against deep strike, and it doesnt exist in the new code, is he using a 5th edition codex?

Either way, warp quake has no effect on markerlights
