With the new dark eldar codex i though i would give it a spin with my old (3rd edition) models and see what i can make out of it. I faced in Tau empire in a 1500 point game of big guns never tire with dawn of war deployment.

Hey dude
Read & enjoyed your report. Don't know much about the new DE book, hopefully picking my copy up tomorrow.
I think you were correct in your analysis though - Dark Eldar need to totally go and destroy one flank at a time if your going for a combat army, looks like you split your forces up a bit, but the Tau going first and taking out your incubi transport made that difficult. I do like the idea of squads of Talos' though, makes it interesting, wonder if they'd be better coming out a webway portal.
Tau are pretty bad news in general for skimmer heavy DE lists though eh
I did chuckle at your Leroy Jenkins-style archon going at the Riptide, that was pretty funny!

Nice batrep. Yes Tau are the bane of DE and always have been. You could try a medusae bomb - it will wreck a crisis team. However, most Tau players will also use interceptor so ... a well designed Tau list is really strong. You really needed to go after those pathfinders from turn one. They wereleft way to long on the table.

I do like the idea of the Medusae bomb but as you say tau does have a lot of intercept so it probably wouldn't be great against them. I will try the list out again and see how it does.

Venoms: what I will do next time is take them as fast attack, allowing me the option of keeping the week warriors in reserve so they can grab a back objective later on while I can still use the venoms. And if in a game I decide to deploy them in they instead, its allowed. More options are always good. You can do that without taking the venoms as fast attack. You are allowed to reserve a unit without their dedicated transport. The only restriction is that no unit can start the game inside the dedicated transport other than the unit that it was purchased for.

Actually the last DE: Codex made vehicle heavy DE list the bane of Tau. Being able to outrange almost the entire army (thanks to nightshields) and chew it apart piece by piece. The codex has left DE vehicles MUCH more vunerable to the fishheads....and everyone else :S

Disagree with the assessments here. DE are fine against tau, because now every single transport has Deep Strike. As long as you have some sort of durable unit anchoring your position (Talos/Chronos), null deploy and drop in their face and overwhelm their target saturation. Add a autarch/aegis to make sure your beta strike happens.
I know, interceptor right? The difference here between the Incubi (example) DSing and starting on the board, is that they had to suffer 3 turns of shooting before getting to assault as opposed to 1. That's not considering that pathfinders won't be marking you, meaning you probably get a jink save. If the rest of your transports DS in as well then your opponent has a rough choice: intercept w/out markerlight support to try and blunt your alpha (probably loosing a riptide), or let the alpha go through to get the markerlight support on his turn. The new dex takes some getting used to, but it has a lot of tools to get work done.
