They're made by a guy on B&C called Subtle_Discord, didn't know he had a store, but I know a few people on there have gotten stuff from him and been pleased with the results.
That's pretty vague, but it's the best I've got.

I've visited the site a few times.
A lot of the items always seem to be 'sold out' which is a shame.
However at least it saves me a bit of cash!
BTW has something gone wrong with the site as the site tabs are showing vertically down the page rather than across the top...

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!! |

He's here on Dakkadakka too in the P&M blogs where he's been designing these and giving pointers for a while now. Uses the same handle here as well.

What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get when you order from The Dark Works. I despise mould lines, warping, bubbles, and well... flaws in general in my casts; any flaw that is not easily fixed means the part goes in the reject bin. My kits are not really meant for the casual builder, but more for those who are a bit jaded by GWs offerings for Chaos Marine vehicles, and want some real show pieces for their collection.
When viewing the cost, please consider that my studio is a 1 person operation and I do everything in house. I spend many hours creating a design from scratch, building it from scratch, and making top quality moulds; all that material and labour comes before I get to make the first cast, to start getting a return on my investment. Finally, to get top-notch result during the casting process requires more labour, the right equipment, and careful execution to minimize all of the previously mentioned flaws. And then there's all the unforeseen costs and complications that need to be considered in the end. I could consider outsourcing to save on costs, but then I lose at least some of the control I have over the quality of my product.
Know that if you support my little studio you are supporting a fellow gamer who is doing this from scratch. It really does help support me, my home, my family, and my education. I reinvest the vast majority of my profits back into the studio with the hope to build up enough low-scale high-quality production that I can someday lower my costs. It's already starting with the addition of a CNC cutter, more traditional tools, and new casting equipment.
Unfortunately, my college education is a bit of a catch-22. I am in the 2nd of a 4 year Industrial Design program, and what I am learning is amazing and will only help me to expand my small studio. The skills I'm learning and the industry people I'm meeting are going to have a massive impact on what I will be doing in the future. The demands of the ID program are very rewarding but also very large, so sadly, this means during the Fall and Winter months when I'm in class my studio time is very limited. I am trying hard to fit a casting run into my cramped schedule in the near future.
Wow... what was just going to be a quick post turned into a bit of a ramble. Ok, I'll shut up now. Thanks everyone for the interest and feedback on my work. Much more to come... eventually.

Keep on keeping on dude, I cannot believe that there is someone out there who has so solidly hit my idea of the CSM aesthetic on the head without ever having met me!
One thing, I can understand, given all the info in your post, how maintaining stock levels may not be easy, but would it be possible to implement some sort of pre-order system? People don't mind waiting if it's expected, and it may help you mange your production better?

Thanks! Yep, that's the plan. Someday I think I'll start a Kickstart project, but for now it's going to be a slow burn while I build up a portfolio of work to showcase for said project.
I used to allow 'overselling' with the idea that I should be able to cover any gaps quickly... until I got an order in the middle of college so large it wiped my reasonable on-hand stock and it took me into back-order for several months. Lesson learned, offer only what you have to protect yourself, and the customer.
My web store is also somewhat limited. I have basic control over things, but adding a function like pre-ordering is beyond that level of control. For now this works for me because I am looking for a simple low-cost solution to offer my product. With so much on my plate already I need to keep it simple and basic.
Contact me directly and I'll be happy to place you on a list for future contact once I have time to cast. Everything I make is somewhat limited edition, but nothing is planned to go out of production for the foreseeable future. If you can wait, I assure you that fresh casts will arrive as soon as I can get some studio time. Unfortunately, I can't accurately predict when that will be because of college and life's other obligations.
Thanks again, as always. I'm not going anywhere anytime soon, but my name is Subtle Discord for a bit of a reason.
