Always loved the guy but never had room for him.
The move to HQ has helped for me though.

Would he actually be viable though?
He is just under double the price of a naked fex.

T6, 4 wounds and a 3+ are pretty basic.
However, D3 hammer of wrath attacks, 5 attacks on the charge and any hits caused by these generate a further attack, plus his tail attack.
All this at S10.
While im not up on 7th, i assume that MC's still ignore unwieldly?

So he is quite a hammer.
And with regenerate plus a 5+ FNP once he takes a wound, he is quite solid also.

So, is he viable now, or still a shelf ornament until the future?
I dont want super competitive, but something that isnt also a waste of points.

Thanks.

Small games - larger games want to make use of Flyrants (best unit in Codex)

I saw a 500 point list floating around here - think it went along these lines:

OOE
Termagants x10
Termagants x10
Hormagaunts x10
Hormagaunst x10
Zoanthrope
Zoanthrope

OOE can help the Zoanthropes by using his Leadership for IB for Gants.

I think anything 1k and under he would do good. Larger than that, I think the Flyrant is just too good to ignore

Thanks guys.

So general consensus is that in small games he is ok.
Anything big and he gets out classed.

So at my usual 1,750 im better off with just a flyrant then :(
Shame really.

Also just noticed his model was pulled from the site, along with the sword and whip upgrade sprues (old news?)

OOE is basically a very expensive Carnifex who will die only marginally slower than a normal one. You could run OOE as a normal fex in a unit of two with crushing claws and AG. 4 extra wounds and fleet for 80 points more will help a lot.

To do that though you have the basic tax of 240 for 2 fex's, and with those upgrades he is only 20 more shy of points for old one eye, who lives a bit longer but does far more in assault.

Thats the thing that gets me more.
He is expensive, but compared to an upgraded fex he still does more for the same points.

Unfortunately yes, the other HQ's just don't bring the utility that the Flyrant does.

That surprises me, but I think you can make it from the Carnifex box.

I wouldn't know though, I've not touched my Nids in a while.

I believe one of the heads has a skeletal side to it.

However, all of my nids are 2nd ed. models, so ill have to chop apart a screamer killer to make him.

it's (flyrant) the only choice if you're not going fluffbunny. OOE is very definitely fluffbunny. if that's your thing, work out.

In my oppininion, OOE is not a bad chracter at all.
The problem is that a Flyrant is the best possible choice
and both OOE and the Flyrant are both HQ units.
So taking any HQ unit that is not a Flyrant is denying you a Flyrant.

If you want to run OOE, run OOE.
While OOE is not going to give you the highest bang for your buck you can still have fun running him.
The question is are you making a fun list or are you making a competitive list.

Fun: OOE is a yes.
Competitive: OOE is a no.

That was probably me. I like OOE in small games and ran that against a necron list.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
OOE is brutal if he gets to assault. The fact OOE "is just a melee fex" seems to act a bit like plot armor when my opponents do target priority. No real reason to not remove him first, the pressing waves of gaunts, stealers, dakkafexes or Synapse pegs seems to draw fire away from him till he gets in the face and eats something.

If OOE, why not a StoneCrusher?

Two reasons for me, first I needed an HQ at that points level, and second I don't have a StoneCrusher. In higher point list the 'Crusher makes a great melee fex to run. If you can use a 'Crusher in the Wrecker Formation he would get even uglier.
