Papierfliegerei 3D printed most of the parts to build his machine gun. It does not use any propellent but is electric powered. Ok, the title I used is a little misleading. It is a machine gun by definition since it shoots multiple projectiles with one squeeze of the trigger. However this is not a firearm and he doesn’t shoot at paper airplanes. It shoots out paper airplanes as projectiles.

At first I was not impressed. The rate of fire is painfully slow. In my mind, he has some sort of hopper of paper airplanes and this machine gun just spits them out. Oh how wrong I was. This machine gun makes its projectiles.

It has an internal magazine loaded with sheets of paper. The machine chambers a sheet of paper from the internal magazine and, in an assembly line fashion, it forms the paper into an airplane then launches them.

The Kasrkin were just men. It made their actions all the more astonishing. Six white blurs, they fell upon the cultists, lasguns barking at close range. They wasted no shots. One shot, one kill. - Eisenhorn: Malleus

Well, as Ahtman once famously said, you gotta get the asses in the seats somehow.

Hey, at least it's not misleading and deliberately offensive!

What kind of person would even do that? I can't imagine such a thing happening. I mean it'd take a particularly crass kind of willful ignorance to do something like that. I'm certainly glad we don't have those kind of lowbrow posters around here. It's good to know everyone here is well above that.

Also, that's a pretty cool toy.

Eventually we will all be victims of machine fired paper aeroplanes. Give generously to your anti-paper-aeroplane-from-a-machine charity of choice and together we can stop[ this menace.

You can make gun parts with most consumer-tier printers but the material they're constructed with only allows you to fire like 30 shots at most before the receiver will crack (this can easily happen as you discharge a round as well).

Practically speaking, regular gunsmithing is both easier and more effective than 3D printing (which is to say, it's painfully simple), at least for the foreseeable future.

Also I think it's kind of telling that the most downloaded 3D blueprints are 1. Sex toys, 2. 40k figs, and 3. Guns/gun parts. Truly the golden trifecta.

Sooo... He built this because paper aeroplanes are too difficult, expensive and time-consuming to make, or...?

Like all good inventors/tinkerers, he built it to see if he could.

I can't help but think that his time and effort could have been better spent.

On?

There is a company that 3D prints guns in metal. Last I read on them, they printed a 1911 that although was finiky to shoot, would shoot. Infact printing with metal powder isn't really a new idea

Presumably what the guy's mum said, when he emerged from her basement with his freshly-printed paper aircraft bazooka...
