U.K

On occasion me and my brother enjoy a game using our house rules which include all the normal rules except from morale checks (as it is an all or nothing game) basically we field everything we have baneblades knights land raiders librarians deamon princes absolutley everything we own. this is basically a game that, as you may imagine, can last several evenings and is a floor war beyond measure.

The first turn always starts off the same (if its my turn first) my mass armour charge (4 land raiders, 7 leman russ, 1 baneblade, 1 stormlord, 2 storm talons, half the ravenwing including sammeal, 3 predators, 1 whirlwind, 2 dark shrouds, 3 land speeders, 1 knight, 1 landspeeder vengeance and a partrige in a pair tree) we always start out of firing range so that we have to move in the first turn negating some heavy weapons. any way my brothers first line is near enough always cannon fodder. usually between 80 and 100 cultists who usually get cut to ribbins (we have a respawn rule for these where squads of 20 respawn using a scatter die behind their furthest forward none cultist model. this represents them always being there but only been spotted at certain times). these cultists usually get mown down pretty early on from heavy weapon fire from pretty much everything.

This one time we were playing i killed every cultist except 1 on the first shooting phase. the second phase i thought id take a shot at him for good measure. missed. shot again... missed. couldnt hit the blooding thing. Ended up wasting nearly every weapon i could fire at it missing. in the end i gave up shooting at it THE BLOODY THING WOULDNT DIE. since thenhe has been repainted with a target on his back and has been dubbed priority 1 for future games (he was also promoted to lord of the cultists by my brother) and i still have trouble killing him.

His fate in that match was not a heroic one however he met a messy end under the tracks of a stormlord (just for good measure).

so does anyone else have any stories of models that wouldnt die? opponents who have come back from the brink of defeat by nothing but shear luck? share it here and give us all a good laugh

had a unit of 5 sternguard fire overwatch on a ss/th 5 man termie squad 4 somehow die and 2 sternguard die in combat. Then the one termie and three sternguard just sat in CC for two turns not killing each other. They did later die though

This was in fifth edition, during the third turn of a 1500 point game. At this point, only ~500 points per side was still alive.

My Terminator Squad (from AoBR) smashed one of the two Leman Russ' of my opponent in CC. His other Leman Russ had been immobilized on turn 2 and was unable to shoot the terminators. All my opponent could do to try to stop me from destroying his Leman Russ (and therefore winning the game, as his few remaining units would have been easy to mop up with the remainder of my force) was to shoot my terminators using his surviving 10 guardsmen.

10 hits

10 wounds

I roll my armour saves, thinking that I will lose one or two...

I rolled 10 ones...

Invulnerable Saves? (we had both misread the rules at this location, and thought that you could take multiple saves. We were told after this game about the 'can only take one save' rule.

10 more ones

I lost that game because of losing my terminators, after 20 ones in a row...

2 Termagants (8 points worth of models) ended up over running an entire unit of Fire Dragons.

My overlord on his pimp mobile died to Fire dragons, got back up, and proceeded to kill his last wave serpent, hill his Autarch with HoW, and in the process died 3 more times, getting back up each time.

My friend had a unit of Khorne Berserkers and tried to charge up a hill at my 20-man blob of Necron Warriors. Needed 3 inches, and failed 2 turns in a row. But, when I fired at them, I did 17 wounds, and he passed every single 3+ save. And in the same game, Kharne the Betrayer chopped up my monolith, but was outright killed with one shooting from a Night Scythe.

I've got two very lucky models in my collection:

Leman Russ Exterminator with 2 Multi-Melta sponsons, lascannon and Hunter Killer missile. A popular loadout these days, but *dons hipster glasses, plaid shirt and moccasins* I used it before it was cool.

Anyways, the important part about this tank is the HK missile. If my tank is ever shaken, you can be certain that said missile will feth gak up. My personal favourite was in 6th before the Apoc reboot, the one with open-ended explosions on super heavies. I had my tank behind a ruin engaging a Stompa; I had been shaken by a Predator Annihilator on the other team, and fire all my weapons; only the HK hits the stompa. I roll a 6 to pen, punching through his AV13, I roll a 6 result; explosion, loses its first structure point, I roll a second 6, another SP down, and a third 6, the Stompa is struck down by a lowly HK missile! But see, it's not over; the death result; APOCALYPTIC EXPLOSION!1111!!1 By the time the dust settled, this HK missile killed 1 Stompa, 6 Mega Nobz, 12 Nob Bikers, a Vindicator and two Rhinos. It was most glorious.

The 2nd is my Death Korps Company Commander. One of my favourite models in the game, and I usually run him as a special character out of IA12 which gives him a 1 use eternal warrior, power sword, hot-shot laspistol and an extra D3+1 attacks at I1 in challenges for 65 points; not bad by any stretch of the imagination (FW writes pretty good Guard characters). At the end of the day though, he's still only WS5, BS4, S3, T3, W3, I3, A2 model. I was fighting an Eldar player in his first game since 4th, using a list very much from that era, but still benefiting from the insanity that is the current Eldar book; a pair of falcons with fire dragons, wave serpents with Dire Avengers and a big jetbike squad with a farseer, and a few other odds and ends. We blew the ever living crap out of one another, and at the end of the game, Marshal Karis Venner stood alone against a full squad of Fire Dragons, and another whole squad of Dire Avengers. He charges the Dragons, survives the overwatch from his refractor field, cuts down the Exarch after taking a few 4+ armour saves, and two more Dragons for good measure. They hold in combat, I'm safe from the Avengers. Venner isn't even hit the 2nd round in, kill all but two Dragons, and they flee, cutting cut down in the process.

Now, clearly with his blood up, my sole model charges the Avengers, takes one wound from overwatch, the Exarch rolls 1s for all his hits, and is cut down in turn, with 2 more avengers. They decide discretion is the better part of valour, and run for it, and are not cut down. Still above 25%, the game continues into turn 6, in which Venner chases down the fleeing eldar, and kills every last one of them.

No one feths with the Death Korps of Krieg.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Another one of my friends had to take 28ish wounds on a unit of terminators. rolled a hand full of dice and didnt get a single 1.

Had a game where my vindicare assassin missed 3 turns in a row of shooting. WTF :(

I have a runtherd who has the following confirmed kills:

6 terminators of various types
Tyranid hive tyrant
Daemon Prince
The Nightbringer (Ctan shard to you newcomers)
Kaldor Draigo
Eldar Wraithknight

I mourned, MOURNED the change of the Shokk prod from poison 4+ to a single high strength hit. Though technically now he has the chance to ID someone, I've yet to actually manage anything spectacular with colonel crazybeard and his faithful 10 man grot murder squad since the codex change.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

My Avatar of Khaine has killed smashfucker in CC but dies to fire from boyz or guardsmen nearly every game. If he's rolling 5++ I'm safe but the minute I have to make a 3+ it's nothing but ones.

All hail Krull and his glorious new regime!

Shadow Fields, god dammit, are the both the best and worse protection in the game. I will make every single save you ask me to make, every single one. I once made 36 2+ saves and kept my Shadowfield in tack (the Devilgaunts didn't have a good day when i charged in...). But the moment you ask me to make a save vs a strength 6 + weapon? Poof. Gone. First time, in every game from the start of the last Dark Eldar codex to this day. I have tried everything, heck, i even had Fortune on my Shadowfield! Still failed to the first Strength 6+ save you ask me to make. Vect, gone to an Incinerator on overwatch, with Fortune. Passed over 20 Svs from Ork Boys, died to first Loota shot.

Strength 6 +, because being a T3 character isn't hard enough.

Drazah the ap2 beat stick (old dex and yes i do take him) gose extra attacks on his demi klaves and chargeing so 7 ws7 attacks misses every one of them in every charge for 3 games in a row!!! On the plus side the same guy has never died yet.

Well, in my second era of 40K, I think I'd currently give most unlucky award to my DDE of Khorne.

First game, I leave him a bit isolated and exposed, partly to see exactly if he's as tough as he appears. He gets focussed down first turn, gets up again around turn 4. Gets focussed down again the next turn.

Second game, I learn from first game, and as we're playing long table, I DS reserve him so he doesn't get focussed first turn and doesn't have to slog up to get in range.

Scatters 10" onto an opposing unit, I roll a 1 on the mishap table. Poof!

Third game is long table again, I learn from game one and two, I decide to DS some other units in alongside, circumventing both the isolated threat and removing the footslogging issue. Turn 2 I roll for reserves, roll 1 or 2 for every DSing unit, except, you guessed it, the Decimator! To compound this, he scatters so far that he ends up going from facing the unit I've assigned as his target (a Tac squad with some attached IC characters, one of which can just hurt AV13, so they can't leg it when he charges them) to completely the opposite side of the same unit, so his rear armour is facing. (Remember that DSing vehicles must maintain their facing and walkers now follow the same rules as other vehicles for shooting in 7th, so no free pivot in the shooting phase!)

So I run him, consoling myself that while he can't roast the unit with heavy Flamers before charging in next turn, he can at least turn to face his best armour at them and charge next turn.

My following turn goes surprisingly well, so ultimately, once he's finally in a position to charge something for the first time in three games, the rest of my army essentially has already destroyed the unit, leaving him nothing to do.

I'm thinking of taking him to counselling.

My brother was fielding a unit of 5 vanguard veterans, 2 double lightning claw guys, one powerfist, and one thunder hammer guy. The TH/ PF guys had stormshields.

So they charge a unit of khorne berzerkers and overwatch happens. Bolt pistols. That's nothing, right? 4 hits, 4 wounds, 4 failed saves. but the thunder hammer guys have invulnerable saves, right? (we hadn't learned the ruleset at this point and thought you could take invulnerable saves and armor saves) 4 more failed saves.

So, over watch kills 4 guys. Its down to captain shrike, and one double lightning claw veteran. they both had like ten attacks all together (on The charge). 10 hits. 10 Armor Piercing wounds.

I went to Hershey Park in central PA this year, and I have to say I was more than a little disappointed. I fully expected the entire theme park to be make entirely of chocolate, but no. Here in America, we have "building codes," and some other nonsense about chocolate melting if don't store it someplace kept below room temperature.

My first apoc game, back in fifth edition. It was a massive field, I think 40,000 pts (I had a lot of proxies). One of my gargoyles squads in running up a ramp/road, basilisk shoots the squad, all but one die.
Gargoyle is now out of synapse, passes instinctive behavior.
My friend decides he better finish him off, just to be thorough.
It was the luckiest model I have. It survived my friend shooting everything in range at this gargoyle. Multiple basilisks, leman russes, baneblades, everything. It all misses or fails to wound.
It didn't do anything else the rest of the game but for that one turn, it was the greats fire magnet ever.
Now every time my friend sees the model (added a bit of color to it chitin) he makes sure to kill it first

What is my SW's secret weapon when fighting Tau? TWC? Terminators? Long Fangs?

No.

It's RHINOS!

I have reaped many casualties from Tau with lowly Rhino tank shocks. In a recent tournament, I shocked a Riptide, a large squad of Crisis Suits and a full Broadside team with tank shocks (and if my opponent had rolled 1 more inch, I would have gotten 2 Riptides). In 6th edition, I had a single Rhino tank shock over 500pts worth of Tau by himself.

Firaeveus Carron wasn't crazy - MEHTUL BAWKSES are not to be trifled with.
