Playing around with my list for the umpteenth time (everytime I get close to finish painting everything I get the itch to just throw stuff around.. God knows why!) it occured to be that Battleforged is about as useless for a Deathwing army as it can get.
The 2 benefits you get for Battleforged:
1. Reroll Warlord trait
2. Objective secured for troops.
If you want to go the Battleforged route, you need to take Belial.
Which invalidates the reroll on the trait, since he has a fixed one - tough luck, especially if you play Maelstrom missions. Worst.Warlord.Trait.Ever.
Terminators on the other hand really bully around troops - so obj sec is not as big as a advantage as it usually is, as you pummel them into oblivion and at least can contest everything else. Besides, Terminators don't usually work that way - you either get eradicated from the objective or you kill the contester.
If you skimp Battleforged you not only don't have to pay the Belial tax (a Int Chap with Mace is still 20 pts cheaper. and obviously a better beatstick...), but also get to reroll the warlord trait. Heck you can even stuff in 2 basic scout squads if you want to stay battleforged for whatever reason...
For my list, this won't help me a bit, since the points just don't add up to anything, but... yeah.

Sure, you can't. But you trade off that and 20 points for a far better beatstick.
So, basically... yes, that is his only advantage, which comes at a, imho, very high cost.

You may also find that a lot of places don't play unbound armies.
But yes, Ideal Mission Commander is useless.
As to Objective Secured.... I dunno. I've seen terminator units tarpitted by termagant broods and similar - the terminators will butcher loads of gaunts but not enough to wipe them out in time - and if the gaunts have objective secured and the terminators dont....
Equally, it's a matter of last-turn game rushes in Eternal War missions; you may have your terminators on the objective, but if I speed in with a fast objective secured model and park it 3" away from the ojective, it doesn't matter that it's the last survivor from a guardian jetbike unit, or a damaged rhino, it still takes the objective off your two-hundred-and-fifty point terminator veterans unit.
Remember 'troops' includes the vehicles, and quite a few armies have fast things in troops (land speeder storms, wave serpents, jetbikes, etc,etc) as well as just rifle squad equivalents.

Though deathwing brings "troop" land raiders.
Good luck clearing these buggers off objectives without imperial knights, especially when you got multiple running around tank shocking anyone off them.
