So, for the last couple of weeks I have been building my IG army for a fun game this weekend.

Here's the thing.

My aim is to get them all built, and with only a tank remaining that seems to be working out, but I want them painted. I don't need them to be painted, but it would be nice.

My paintscheme is homemade; black armour, grey clothes and snowy bases.

The basic idea is to get them all sprayed black so that I don't have to worry about armor, paint the clothes Eshin grey, and do all the details last off.
Flesh will just be bugmans glow/mournfang brown (haven't decided) and cadian fleshtone.

How am I gonna do it? Any tips for speed painting?

If you had a airbrush that would save you allot of time bringing on the basic colors. regardless you could do basic colors first like plain black, grey and flesh colors and then use nulnoil, agrax shade and sepia washes to quickly bring on some shading/details.

After the weekend you can continue to redo al figures by adding all details and extra shading layers.

If you have time show us a picture of the end result.

Goodluck!

Speed-painting - my way.

First, get a wet palette. Google or Youtube it if you don't know what I am talking about.

I usually paint ten or fourteen models at a time when I am speed-painting. The method I used is an attempt to get a lot of small feelings of accomplishment.

I divide the models up into pairs.

Round 1
I paint colour 1 (could be the Eshin Grey) unto pair A.

Round 2
I paint the colour 1 (Eshin Grey) unto pair B.
I paint the colour 2 (could be Cadian Fleshtone) unto pair A

Round 3
I paint colour 1 (Eshin Grey) unto pair C
I paint colour 2 (Cadian Fleshtone) unto pair B
I paint colour 3 (could be Metal) unto pair A.

Round 4
-Keep going with all your colours.

It's like a wave washing over your models.

A
AB
ABC
ABCD
ABCDE
-BCDEF (A might be done)
--CDEFG (B is now also done)
---DEFG
----EFG
-----FG
------G

Done

Three tricks here;
The wet palette makes sure that you can have all your colours active at the same time - making you paint that much faster.
The fact that you change colours almost constantly means that you don't get bored by painting the same details in the same colour a million times in a row.
As you are about to start on pair E or pair F, you are almost finished with pair A - giving you a nice feeling of "getting somewhere".

Bonus side-effects;
As you are changing colours constantly you are also cleaning your brush constantly - making it survive much longer.
If you are using washes, they have time to dry before you get to that particular pair again.

Great stuff! Just one problem. I just spent ages on skyrim, and probably will spend some more as I just started another character...

So then you're just a troll, and aren't actually here for advice?

I mean, asking for advice and hinting at motivation or w/e being a problem is one thing. But just "That's nice, too bad I play too many video-games. Lolololol" when someone makes a serious response to your thread is.. pretty underwhelming.

Yeah, this isn't trolling as such, just... I probably have a problem. Tomorrow!

This is a pretty easy paint scheme, which with guard is a beautiful things.

Undercoat black.
Paint, or I would actually drybrush all the grey on to the clothing.
Paint the flesh color.

Next, buy dark tone quickshade from armypainter. This stuff will make your models look like you spent much more time and effort on them.

Dip the models in the quickshade, let them sit over night.

Do some touch ups and highlighting and you're done.

Thought about dipping? Just paint the main colours get a dark wood stain then matte varnish.

Army painter have an example of your scheme and it looks pretty decent.

I want to do it with stuff readily on hand. No matt finish/varnish for me. Also, feth frikin dry brushing, I hate it from the bottom of my heart (unless using it on bases) just no...

The best way I find is to put 4 or 5 miniatures on a Craft stick. This only works if they are all the same color scheme. You will be painting a group of miniatures instead of them as individual miniatures.

lol. So we're supposed to know what you already have on hand? If you want to get these painted up as quickly as possible with minimum time, money, and effort invested, then why would you come here asking for advice? It seems like you really don't care how these turn out.

Seems bloody easy if you pick a color available in a spray can

so in order

Assemble (clean glue and all)
Prime Black
Touch up black with hand painting into places you miss (helps with the shadows)
Spray paint base color (like gw mornfang brown or something from testors or krylon if you feel like geting adventurous
Base coat 1 color or area at a time (like all the blacks or leather colors first or all the boots, then helm then armor etc.)
Then Wash. If you are cheap you could get winsor neuton water color paints in black and brown, water it down to wash consistancy and wash them in batchs (use water and a Q tip to clean up messy areas and flat surfaces)
Then Seal with like testors dull coat.

Take it easy and go in steps and you can do an army in a month if you can keep your hands off the joystick.

Then Paint them in batches

There is no other tips or tricks to it unfortunately

Break the projects down into manageable chucks and follow through. (AKA: Have a Pants day or a Face day or a gun day and so on)

Better get started if you ever wana finish

Just remember on Pants day, you are not allowed to wear pants.

It's an immutable law of painting.

Well besides whats already been discussed

Though i could add, find a quite place with Zero distraction and make it a Zen place. Leave your phone out side, no radio, no TV and just FOCUS till you become one with your painting self and get gak done.

I find that i get sooooooooo distracted just because of dakka and youtube that now i paint in a completely diffrent location like 10 miles away from my house.

Depends how good you want them. This is an easy method.

The further down this list the better they'll look but stop at any stage.

I'd line up about 10 guys.
Spray them black,
Paint all their armour
Paint all their clothes
Paint all their lights etc
Add wash (I'd try to get this far minimum cause a wash makes a huge difference)
Tidy up with base colours if necessary
Add edge highlights
Add some freehand/transfers

If you get to the end they should look pretty good.

TBH it sounds like its the sitting down to do it that your struggling with, I'm having the same problem, so just do it! and I should do the same

WORST TIMING EVER

The Iron blew, I ran out of black spray, and I spilt my white paint...

Gonna have to make a supply dash.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Right, this is the plan:

Spray 'em (I picked up some more black spray paint)
Do all of the clothes
Do all of the skin
Details
Wash

Repeat
Should get them to an OK quality pretty fast

Ok, I'm turning this into a mini-blog

So, it was a bit windy outside so I made a makeshift spray booth and got about half of them sprayed. Looking mostly good, but i might have to touch them up a little bit with Imperial Primer

All in all, good so far, although the bloody tank is just annoying, probably won't have that painted up, Ho hum..

So, I've given most of them a quick once over with the eshin, I've done it fast and not very neat, but right now, just getting the basic colors down is priority no.1

aaaaaand, of course I have to go to the doctors

Oh well.
