I hear that Tau haters mostly hate because of the Riptide (discussed here) or Broadsides (discussed in the other thread).

This thread is about collecting data to see just how many are used and how they are equipped.

Please vote and then post your build(s) from your last game.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I use a single Riptide and I equip it with an IA, TL Plasmas and Stimulant Injectors.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
BTW, this INCLUDES FW variants.

I run two Riptides of that same configuration, but honestly, it is 99% because of my absurdly terrible luck with them. When I play with just one, I've found that probably 6 or 7 games in 10, it winds up dealing several wounds to itself trying to use the nova reactor, a problem that is further compounded whenever my opponent is equipped to deal with the Riptide itself. So I run two of them to have a backup in case the first one craps out on me.

Of course, I'm also sort of an atypical Tau player in that I don't build my lists around Pathfinders, since my local meta has grown wary enough to focus fire them down on the first couple of turns. So I normally don't get high BS, cover-ignoring shots with my Riptides, either.

I use two, only two and more more.

They are for anti tank and anti elite, both with ion cannon things. I also tend to use 3 rail and plasma broadsides. Between them, I have no problems killing elite stuff and monsters.

I am surprised at the amount of people that don't use Riptides.

I personally do t use a Riptide, I don't like the model and I find the fluff surrounding it a bit rubbish.

I do however like the look of the new XV9 Riptide and will be definitely purchasing one of them regardless of the rules.

Only one as my centerpiece. I don't hate 'em but don't parricularly like 'em either.

Only one. And at £50 it's going to stay that way.

Useful, though.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

None. I'm trying to win without it for, when I want to use one, I'm able to win without depending on it.

Not a single one. The only Elite I ever take is Stealth Suits.

I try to run 1 unit of stealth suits but they always massively under perform.

Mine haven't underperformed yet, but then, I only take them as vehicle-assassins, and anything else they do is a boon. They usually fall back to act as Shadowsun bodyguards.

Mine went to the shelf. along with the HRR broadsides.

They were used old codex when EVERYTHING was bad, but nowdas when fire warriors and crisis suits are actually GOOD, I can't excuse my stealth suits any more.

So my list is usually in the lines of a commander and/or ralai, 8-9 crisis suits (if I didn't take commander he is usually standing as a suit), a riptide, some fire warriors, hammerheads and tetras.

I should really compile my maximum army size...

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

I use to run one, then I bought a second and ran two for a fair while. But for the past month or two I have just been running one.
I also run a team of stealth suits, a lot of the time they under perform but I like them lol

For me, games with tau players follow this formula:

1000pts, 1 Rip, 1500, 2 Rip, 2000+, Triptides full cheese.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
