Hey guys, I wanted to know what weapon loadout your sentinel has. Since the armoured sentinel became dirt cheap and their weapons too, it's seem interesting to include some in a list...

So how do you kit them out and what objectif do they have to accomplish ?

Well I recently got a couple and I played them with Lascannons. In 6 turns, I got one hit with the BS3 and I rolled a 1 to wound. So it wasn't a great experience for me. I may try weapons with more shots to increase my chance of hitting something.

I think it's just me but why does the machine spirit of lascannons hate the imperial guard ?

But yeah the BS 3 isn't that reliable

My preference is autocannons in units of three. Lascannon/Plasmacannons also look good on paper, but I usually put these in infantry blobs and/or russes.

I see them as HWTs, often moving up one flank. For 20 pts over a HWT you get AV 12 and may move and fire. I also think they are useful as counter assault unit used to tie up units closing in. Surprisingly many units struggle to put down 6 hull points on AV 12.

At the moment, I'm using Lascannons - mainly because I see a lot of armour (including Land Raiders that are immune to meltas), and multilasers or autocannons just bounce off.

Honestly though they rarely do much and I'll most likely end up replacing them soon.

Plasma Cannons make me... nervous. The chance of taking a hull point doesn't bother me, but the chance of their only weapon not firing certainly does.

I chop and change load-outs all the time, usually based on whether I think I'll have a psyker with Presience available. Assuming you take a full squadron of 3, remember that a vehicle squadron can be spaced 4" apart, and this provides good coverage for units behind the sentinels if you're advancing aggressively. It's seems to be a bit old-hat these days, but don't forget they can also be used to tie up a strong enemy unit in CC for a few rounds.

But when taking armoured sentinels do they shall perform as infantry support by taking additional firepower like multilaser spam or autocannon spam, maybe lascannons firesupport since there are more and more av 14 tanks rising up.

I'd say Autocannons. S7 is quite a sweet spot and more shots are necessary with BS3

Magnets. Magnets are your friends. I find the plasma cannons annoying when they lose their shooting to Gets Hot rolls. The Autocannon ones have range and are cheap. Heavy Flamer ones are acceptable counterassault/deep strike detterents.

As a question, when you guys use sentinels, how many do you use?

A Squad of 3 Scout w/ Autocannons. Single Armoured w/ Heavy Flamer. Squad of 2 Armoured with Camo and Lascannons. The last one is for fun only...

I was thinking of kitting some out with either a rocket launcher, lascannons or autocannons. problem is that all my HWT have autocannons too...

Plasma Cannon, you only have about a 1 in 12 to lose a hull point to overheat it is also inexpensive and fairly accurate with good AP.

It is also a nice cheap option with few to none of the fall backs of the other weapons systems.

Multi laser is also great because it is free.

Heavy flamer could be useful if you are using the A-Sent as a Tarpit unit.

I generally run 2 of them, separate, but I could also run Multiples in units

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

After running them a few times, I think lascannons are a poor choice. One shot weapons in general, I'm prolly going to avoid. Heavy flamers, multilasers, and autocannons are all good options.

I run 2 scout sentinels (outflanking) with autocannons, one gun is actually holding with funtak, so I can change the autocannon to a HF or the multilaser, but I never really do so (I like having one weapon in 1 squad)

They usually manage to get attention off my main line, slice off a hull point or wreck a vehicle...the rest of the time I roll crap and they get steamrolled come next turn

I also got a 2-sentinels squad of the Armoured kind, both with lascannon and a HK missile.

I used them a few times, got lucky and killed Longstride turn 1 with a few 6s; the HK are one-shot but it's more to give extra kick to the BS3 lascannon that can't accept any type of orders and must rely on Psykers. I deploy them usually on my flanks, move up using cover and get some side armour shot connecting.
