Looking at second edition army list stuff to get an idea of what 3rd will bring. What is a cube? What does it do?

It's a storage container for your persona. It can be used to bring a dead person back to life. In game terms it doesn't do anything at the moment, except allowing the Combined Army to snatch your model.

Yeh it's just a backup for your brain basically, standard near future sci-fi. I wish they'd be braver with this fluff as it's going to be the biggest change humanity has ever faced when the time comes. Maybe it needs it's own stage though, there's enough going on in the Infinity universe right now I guess.

That's a flask, by the by.

This explains something I had noticed: in my copy of Operation: Icestorm, at the end of the booklet where the army lists for 300 points are put out, most models in the Nomad list have "Cube" in a little icon near their name. The Mobile Brigada, one the other hand, has the same icon, but it says "petecas".

That's because the brig doesn't have a cube - but does have an implanted hip-flask for imbibing nomad hooch on the go.

Nomad hooch is often used by the other groups to fuel high-altitude jets.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

Think it has some use in the Campaign Paradiso book though?

Also, you can tell yourself that your poor little miniatures isn't really dead, and can just be reincarnated after the battle

In the UK we call that a hip-flask. Used for storing alcohol, I assume you means this Aldo, or do you mean a container for tea, like this one?

The Cubevac rules are in Paradiso, yes. IIRC, since I never played the campaign, you can also resurrect lost personalities as well as your Spec Op.

Hip flask. A thermos in Spanish is el termo, at least in North America. Who knows what the South Americans or the Spaniards call it. Or what they put into it. Yerba Maté or Gazpacho?

Nomad liquor is called Pruno. Google it if you don't know.

It's used to store alcohol of course.

First, flask is a cooler name (and makes more general sense in context) than Cube... I'm sad that one was lost in translation.

Next, as said by others, cubes are currently mostly a narrative-layer thing that interacts with the game in very limited ways. Currently it is used in the Paradiso rules, but only for SpecOps (and for the most part, folks ignore SpecOps in Paradiso so this isn't a huge interaction either) and they are used to figure out who can be a target of the Sepsitor.

In N3 they will allow for re-rolls on checks to revive them using doctors if you spend a command point to do so. There may be other interactions we haven't heard about yet.
