Project: Alpha Mecha
Kickstarter goes live : Nov 28th
Alpha Mecha Website
Alpha Mecha is an easy to learn, non-paperwork, tactical robot combat board game. Alpha Mecha is quick to play, but still rich in tactical options. Easy enough for twelve year olds, but for advanced gamers, it is a practical sandbox to play in. If you like the idea of smashing robots in epic battles, then this robot board game is for you!
Choose from any of eight different factions. Play as the honorable Blue Spartans, the deceiving Shadow Foxes, the gear crazed Steel Cheetahs, and more!
The game plays with a color coded dice system, that makes game play quick. You can play battles of ten mecha in half an hour!
Also, to promote good gaming, we are going to include a copy of the Board Game Honor Code. It sets a standard of ethical play that also promotes good sportsmanship.

The mecha are the cheap ones em4 do, and the cards I think are Macross and Gundam. Even the modular game boards look fairly meh quality from what I cans see on the game site.

That is a shame, it seems like such a fun idea, just lacking in quality and originality.

Doc1234 and Red_Starrise, thanks for replying so I can tell you about it.
Doc, those pics on the cards simply placeholder images. I certainly would not put them into the game itself! Once the cards are done with a true graphic designer (of which I am certainly not one), they will be so much better that these will turn into dust.
As far as the maps, those are also prototypes. The ones you are looking at are simply thin cardstock. They are going to be majorly upgraded! The guy who is helping me mentioned last week there are many little effects and extras that I did not use that will make them look much better. Also, they will be 2mm thick. They will be solid!
Guess we'll just have to disagree with the way the mechs look. A lot of people love them so I'm not ready to change my mind on them.
Please remember, that this is why this is a Kickstarter project. I can't afford to have all my artwork done ahead of time by pros. My brother won an Origins Award for artwork last year, but I would not think of asking him, or any artist, to work for little money or for free. They have bills to pay and time working for a hopeful return doesn't pay the bills.
I hope that helps! Keep checking [url="http://alphamecha.com/category/weekly-updates/"the Weekly Updates[/url] to see some of the upcoming videos explaining more of the game!

No that's perfectly understandable, it's just that I and a lot of people tend to make fairly snap judgments on a KS project being worth my attention or not. It's not always fair, but certain things are almost guaranteed to put me off doing much more than scrolling past its listing on Kicktraq. Placeholder copy-paste screenshot art like that is one of them, and it tends to rate up there with "My game is like X" direct references. I agree no one should work for free and the KS is to fund the game, but having something a bit more to show from the start than some quick mock-ups you made on MSPaint would certainly fill people with a little more faith.
Not to sound mean, just pointing out KS is a fairly competitive market on its own these days. Just having a good idea won't always get you that far if someone else's KS has a flashier presentation. I'm always happy to see more tiny mechs ambling around, just wanting to give you a heads up.
And the mechs I meant "cheap" in the literal term as they're what, £2 for a full set . They're certainly get what you pay for, but I have a set myself. Think i turned the Heavy one into a little dropship.

I've not got any interest in board-based mech games, but I wish you all the best. It's nice to see folks finding new uses for the classic "Steel Warriors" miniatures.
I am a bit confused by your reversal of the Rifleman-ish mech torso in your "warrior" mech section. The torso looks cool when turned around, but if you don't rotate the waist and remove the cockpit on the back, the legs and rear-facing cockpit will make it pretty clear that the machine is facing backwards.
Here's what I came up with:

Yeah I know I have been waiting to get the new pics set to replace them. I was taking pics for what seemed like forever and got confused.
That does look good. Wish it was an option for a basic set of them. Also wish the laser and plasma ball pistol (it's what I call them anyway) were both lefty and rightie. Of course, the only thing it stops is not being able to plop two lasers or plasma ball on each mecha.

Doc, I want to change that picture, but it is the only one I found right now that has the middle open enough for the logo. It is just a placeholder image for now.
Asterios, in the idea that it is a bunch of robots blasting each other, yes it is similar.
However, the angle is the game is built on speed in mind. it is a paperworkless mecha combat game that can allow many mecha a side and get it done under an hour. There are some major differences in tactics as well.

I'm actually kind of curious about your rights to profit from reselling another companies miniatures. Isn't there legal considerations there or am I mistaken (as usual )

Hello again Doc1234,
Getting an agreement with them was the first thing I did before even considering this project.
I've had to do a lot of research on this project. The costs and logistics to get the minis, and other game parts, from those countries to the US, then compiled, then sent to customers around the world. It's been quite the necessary hassle let me tell you.

If you know podcaster Phil Johnson, who was big with 40k radio , you know he knows his stuff.
He has his own podcast now, Firebase Delta where Alpha Mecha is featured. It is episode 33.
Here is an example of some of the updated Battle Boards;
and a list of the components...
