Subject: Comic Batrep: Campaign for Umbral Void Wk 3: Dark Angels and Eldar
Below follows the account of the Campaign for the planet Umbral. Following the sensational assination of the governor by orbital strike, the fires of civil war have been stoked on the planet. Armies from across the galaxy have been drawn to this planet for numerous reasons, but each desperately wants to claim the planet and will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.
Spoiler:
The Dark Angels and the Deathmarines - The heros of the the imperium sally forth once more to crush the in fighting of the warring families, kill the brutal xenos assaulting the planet, and restore order to the sector.
The Eldar of Craftworld Ji Zhan and Coven of the Black Heart - The Farseers have united with their Dark Kin, to stop the reactivation of this Dormant tomb world of Umbral and the mighty destructive weapon that lies at its core, transcendent Shard Heket, if the great Enemy were to get their hands on it... the thought is too terrible to imagine.
The Demon Prince Belitras and his nurgle cohort and the Ork warboss Krumpass - Knowing the power of planetary weapons and the sight of the crater that could be seen form space was all it took for 'ol Krumpy get excited, but the demon Belitras has more subtle game in mind. He knows that tidings of nurgle are best spread through the tide of commerce, which means Umbral shall become a poisoned well...
The Tau led by Farsight and the 325 ICG - With the aid of the excommunicated Imperial command group fighting at their side the Tau seek a new sphere of expansion and the world of Umbral is perfect for their needs.
The Sautek and Nekthyst Dynasties of Necrons, with the Aid of Archmagos Therax. - With knowledge of the buired transcendent C'tan locked in its Etherium Prison, the Necrons need nothing less than victory, for that is the very weapon they require to set the sector aflame, while the Mechanicum can deliver them all cure to the flayer virus... victory is within reach.
The Deliverence of Phobos Hive From his citadel high atop the Hive Lord Phobian looked into the strange Elvish eyes of the Psyker across from him. He suppressed a shudder of his wizened body as is body was wracked by a painful surge as the defibrillation implant supported his barely functioning heart.
"Do we have a deal human? Your rule over Umbral in exchange for use of Phobos Hive. We offer your people a shard of hope to be free from this war and your enemies. We can free you from your enslavement to the imperium, and its mindlessness. You will remain in power and we will crush your enemies, if you will grant us the use of Phobos Hive. Craftworld Ji Zhan will only extend this offer once."
The creaking leader could see that this would be his only opportunity, "Very well you have the support of the rulers of Phobos Hive. Eliminate the astartes Force stationed in the southeast and we can give you our full support."
"Very well human. By the end of this planetary rotation you shall have your hive united once more.
The eldar claim an early 4 VP
By the end of T1 i;ve lost my rhinos (shoulda put them beind the fortification.) and claim 2VP
End of eldar two and both wraith knights are stuck in. The shining spears shot at the other tactical squad but when they failed morale couldn't charge. Eldar gain another 3 VP.
End of T2 and ive only been able to claim 1 more VP.
At the end of E3 the eldar pick up 2 more VP the score is now 9-3. Not looking good.
Ouch Stomped by a wraithknight. Azzy is gonna need alotta tylenol. we both lose warlords. I pick up another VP but its getting harder to pick up points cause I can't move fast enough. 9-4 eldar.
He attempts to shoot me down but due to campaign benefits my flyer has skilled rider and evades the worst of the damage.
So i was angling on this turn to pick up the ascendancy card and control 3 objectives but the exploding WS kills my remaining tactical and as a result I can't claim anything. frustrating. However I still pick up a point while my opponent gets none, its 9-5 eldar.
The dire avengers, crimson hunter and WS all try to kill off the Knights but two remain. No points this turn.
using the bikes i am able to claim my ascendancy card but since were playing deadlock i can't draw too many. Score 9-8 eldar.
I can't use my final card but neither can my opponent so the only way for me to win is by tabling him. I start well killing his second autarch. Then we both remember the dire avengers on the top floor of the ruin. I can't quite kill them off. the crimson hunter jinks and I fail my charge on the wave serpent all. Final score 11-10 Eldar.
Analysis: Wow that was awesome game. Couple of things to note. we both forgot about the Dire avengers in the ruins. I should have started more stuff on the table instead of bring my bikes on to outflank. i wanted to kill those wave serpents they just kept making jink saves. Rough i had a chance at the end though.

Thanks man at some point i think my opponent scored a assinate card on the turn that he killed azreal. But he did it during my turn at the time we counted it for D3 extra points, but in actuality i think that you gotta achieve this on your turn. I dont have cards in front of me to confirm this. thanks for reading man.
tyrannosaurus wrote:Awesome as always, really enjoyed this. Four waveserpents and 2 wraithknights? Ouch. You did well to keep it close.
Thanks T-rex. your appreciation does not go unnoticed. This is a map based campaign and its starting to get really interesting. Thanks for checking out the exploits!

AWESOME! This is awesome. I love this style of battle report. Thank you very much.
Cheers squirrels rage! Thanks for checking it out. If you haven't already check out the battles from the prior weeks. They are all done in this format.
Red Corsair wrote:I agree, these are easily becoming my favorite betreps, you should run a compilation page so its easy to revisit all your hard work.
Your a great story teller!
What software do you use to make these?
Red Corsair, thanks so much for reading and commenting. I'll think about the compilation page, good suggestion, and thanks for the compliment. Gotta admit writing dialouge is a lot easier than coming up with the weapon effects for each weapon type (tend to borrow inspiration from Dawn of War). I use CS5 to put these battle reports together. I also put up the prior two battle reports in the series on your reccomendation if people want to check those out. Thanks again.

Cheers man, thanks for the support.
GiraffeX wrote:That was a really nice bat rep, it took you right into where the action is each turn.
Thanks giraffe, i try to cut out some the extraneous pics to just go for the juicy stuff. I think it worked well in this report. Thanks for reading and the words of encouragement.
Beautiful armies. You should be proud. Those Wave Serpents were tough to kill, but it was good to see the Marines get going late in the game in close combat after a slow start. Great job!
Project log and campaign featuring Orks, Imperial Guard, Marines, Tyranids: http://www.xhorikwar.blogspot.com/ Currently focused on our Horus Heresy campaign with White Scars, Death Guard and Imperial Militia.

Thanks man as always, its painted stuff that really captures the imagination. It was an uphill battle but I almost stole it. Thanks for checking it out.
Gitsplitta wrote:Fantastic batrep as usual and wow... what a game! Looked like great fun.
Cheers Git. It was a fun game and pretty close. it was fun doing the image of the wraithknight power overload.
Pyeatt wrote:These are THE BEST batreps!!!
Advice, can you put your pics in groups of 2-3 maybe, within "Spoiler" blocks? for the lower bandwidth browsers. I often come here on my phone.
Pyeatt thanks so much for the encouragement. As for your suggestion, I always find that looking at these batreps on such a small screen really doesn't do them justice, but i'll consider it.
